Casa Romei was built by the merchant Giovanni Romei around the mid fifteenth century, and constitutes a unique renaissance mansion in Ferrara. Original decorations from the age of its first owner, elegant courtyards, loggias, halls, make it an exceptional landmark inside the ancient city centre. During the time that the house formed part of the Monastery of Corpus Domini, the ceilings of the rooms on the first floor (XVI century), were decorated with elegant grotesques. Casa Romei became a veritable museum in 1953 and received collections of frescoes, statues and lapidaries from mostly destroyed ancient city churches and civil buildings. Therefore you can discover -inside its 15 rooms- witnesses from a forgotten town. The echoes of important artists, such as Donatello, Francesco Dal Cossa, Gregorio di Lorenzo, Bastianino, Alfonso Lombardi, make the visit inside Casa Romeo an unforgettable experience of a greater interest.

Worth a visit!

Excellent museum in a very nice building close to the center of Ferrara. The most important works of art related to the history of Ferrara are collected there.

We had an intriguing visit to explore the Casa Romei this afternoon. In particular we enjoyed the two small private rooms as yet only open to the public on limited occasions. These were dedicated to the study of grammar and geography. Helpful staff and well documented exhibits contributed to a worthwhile experience.

Well reconstructed and preserved noblemen's house that later became part of the nearby convent. Also has architectural fragments and ancients archaeological bits and pieces.

You can skip this "attraction" altogether, unless you have a MyFE card and are bored out of your wits. Photos look attractive but there is really nothing interesting to see, in my opinion.

Make sure you put this house on your list of things to see in Ferrara. It is a wonderful opportunity to see what it looks like behind those tall brick sides and the glorious rooms and a decoration held with in. You can really get a sense of what it was like to live there. Get a myfe card for... More

Another visit that had the place to myself. Free if you have a MYFE card. Beautiful frescoes in a couple of rooms and a lovely courtyard. Well worth a visit.

Gorgeous place in Ferrara. With beautiful insights and courtyard, you absolutely have to see all of the "affreschi". A very young and competent director guided us throughout the various rooms. Not too far from the city center, you can see a lot of other Ferrara's less know but still amazing places, too! It's also quite cheap and many events take... More
