The Giau Pass (Italian: Passo di Giau) (ladin lenguage: Jof de Giau) (el. 2236 m.) is a high mountain pass in the Dolomites in the province of Belluno in Italy. It connects Cortina d'Ampezzo and Colle Santa Lucia. It is located at the center of a vast mountain pasture at the foot of Nuvolau (2,574 m) and dell'Averau (2,647 m) from which you can easily reach the Monte Pore (2,405 m). Impressive is the view west towards Colle Santa Lucia with the Pale di San Martino, Cime D'Auta, Marmolada, Piz Boe and Setsass, just to the east towards the valley of Cortina d'Ampezzo, with Tofane, Croda Rossa, Pomagagnon, Cristallo, Croda da Lago, etc ...

Beautiful views in the heart of the Dolomites. At 2,236 m Rifugio Paso Giau offers you a breathtaking views. Passo Giau is an UNESCO World Heritage Site. We drove from Venice to Cortina D'Ampezzo and the views are spectacular. Lots of motorcycles in the Summer months, so exercise more care.

Got there following the recommendations on Trip Advisor ... Drove from Cortina back to Venice, and decided to take a de-tour. The road was pretty windy, but not bad... And so beautiful... Finally got to Passo Giau and it did not disappoint - the view is simply amazing...We planned to stop for coffee but discovered that rifugio was closed...Not sure... More

A lot of swerving on the way up but the view is absolutely stunning. Considered a lifetime experience with such breathtaking views on the way up and reaching your destination!

The view from the top was WELL worth the risk of being beaten up by a man in a leather Masserati jacket who snapped because our rental car hardly chugged past the speed limit. Here, you are met with a vast mountain pasture set at the foot of the outstanding mountain formation Nuvolau or dell’Averau. Peak towards the west to... More

Passo Giau is a nice windy road through "Sound of Music" type meadows, surrounded by panoramic mountain scenes. It is a nice and long pass with sweeping bends that makes it lots of fun on a motorcycle! There are still lots of tight bends to make it interesting!

We did this by car...make sure you stop on route at the view points - good parking area at the top and a restaurant.
