For the love of Vanilla flavors!
Oct 2018 • Solo
It is located in a small lane is Casale Monferrato, in the Piedmont region of Italy where it is difficult for a large vehicle to get in. So even though we had tonpark a little further away in the main Square (the Piazza, as the Italians call it) we got the distinct aroma of fresh bakes from a distance. This bakery that makes a special kind of vanilla biscuits / cookies called Krumiri to be taken with coffee.
It was amazing to see a typical Italian gentleman on the cash counter and just behind the bakery is where the local ladies worked to prepare, sort and pack them. They were already getting ready for Christmas packs and had a different price for the broken pieces v/s the perfectly shaped ones!
The people of the Piedmont region took lot of pride in talking about them and we thanked them for letting us discover them.

Must-see and must-buy, perfect Monferrato souvenir!!!
Apr 2017 • Friends
Casale Monferrato is mostly famous in the rest of Italy for two reasons, one of which is unfortunately a sad history related to an asbestos factory, "Eternit". The other reason, thankfully, are the delicious krumiri biscuits which were invented here (there's a whole legend connected to this, and an anthem, and lots more!) and are still produced in the small but successful family-run business in via Lanza, in the town centre.

Just follow the delicious smell that fills the pedestrian streets of the centre and you'll find the shop... then buy an elegant metal box if you're after style, ask for the "broken" krumiris if you like to do it cheap, and go for a carton box if you think that truth is found in the middle.

In case the shop is closed, don't sob too much- bars and bakeries in the area might have a supply of krumiri carton boxes to cheer you up.

Fun fact: it is said that only two people at a time know the FULL recipe of these amazing biscuits, which were first produced by mistake. Is it true? I have no clue :P
p.s. if you ever buy a Bistefani factory-produced version of the krumiris, be aware- the people of Casale will think very little of your choice!!

Rudeness at the check out
Feb 2017 • Friends
Lovely biscuits for sure.

The mature guy at the check out, did not say a word, no eye contact, he kept talking on the phone and obviously, did not thank us.

Customer service simply poor.

Great local treasure

Within Italy this biscotti is quite famous. The quality for the ones not in the thin box is far better if you can choose. Having said that about the product, every single staff is not friendly and rude every time I went there, there is always a frustrating story, this included the owner. If you want to avoid the fuss, go and buy in Famila in Casale. They sell for a little bit more expensive price.

Unique delice
Sep 2015
It is a kind of cookies which can only be found in Casale Monferrato. Krumiri Rossi, now produced by the Portinaro family, are the only original krumiri. Any other brand is just an industrial copy of this marvelous bisquit. Do not leave Casale Monferrato without a traditional metal box of this piece of art ! The only trouble is that they are unable to keep up with demand and, especially around Christmas time, you could find the product sold out very frequently.
