A quick visit
Sep 2018 • Couples
It was built in the 12th century, and reconstructed in the 17th, which is mostly what you see today.

The altar piece was the most memorable part of the quick visit.

The vestibule now houses some modern art.

Unique and beautiful Catherdral

I was so struck with the contemporary front space that has been added to this historic place of worship. The combination of the traditional -- and gorgeous -- main part of the structure with the modern and light-filled front is just striking.

Off the beaten path....

We did a random side trip to this barren city of Casale and found this magnificent Medieval cathedral. This town is more than difficult to navigate but this cathedral exudes the 1100's and numerous side chapels. Beware that it is closed from 12-3.

A must if you visit Casale Monferrato
Oct 2017 • Couples
This important Romanesque-Lombard Cathedral (dedicated to Saint Evasius) was first consecrated in the 11th century A.D. It is the most ancient monument in the town of Casale Monferrato (situated on the Po river about 90 km from Torino).
Like other cathedrals in Piedmont it has a rather simple but striking facade, framed by two bell towers on either side. The interior is breathtakingly beautiful with its tall columns and frescoed ceiling. Of interest is the column marking the place where the patron Saint was martyred.

Interesting but not spell binding.

Parts of the Duomo are new and some of the restored parts give you an idea of how the church has evolved. There is some modern sculpting in the entrance that are worth a pause but I wouldn't beat a path just to see them. Whitebeard83

Interior Nicely Painted
Aug 2017 • Couples
This cathedral has a unique interior due to the neat blue and creme paint job on its pillars. There is also a pretty spectacular crucifix over the altar.

An hidden jewel

A 12th century church full of atmosphere. It is worth a detour from your itinerary. Ask the locals about the fight for the crucifix, it is an interesting story.

Enter through the narcolex and admire some beautiful stonework and the chapel of Saint Evasio which looks a bit like an 18th century ballroom with added reliquary. The ceiling above the altar is well worth the visit alone.

Definately worth a visit
May 2016 • Couples
We had a tour given to us by one of the local ladies who was so proud of the Cathedral. We had a brief visit on our return from a restaurant on the evening before, so we definitely wanted to see it and have time to appreciate its history. They have some modern pieces in the entrance which is a great surprise and definitely is interesting mixing the very old with modern. The Cathedral itself is very different with the colour it has been painted, just beautiful. We did give the guide a donation to put towards the up keep the Church.
