The museum hosts a very interesting and quite varied collection ranging from early medieval sculpture to late 19th/early 20th century paintings ("Modern art" is perhaps a slight misnomer). Exhibits are mostly well described and presented (though some interesting items in the "medieval ivories" section are...More

This museum has strange opening hours, they open the doors for about 15 minutes at 10, 12, 2 and 4. The ceramics collection is extensive and good, but after seeing way too many Madonnas and Saints I was disappointed that their definition of " modern"...More

This free museum, in a large palazzo, is well worth a visit for its ancient sculpture and medieval painting. Don't go with high hopes of modern art.

The museum contains a good choice of religious paintings of the 14th – 17th centuries. Most of them have been made by Tuscan artists, and many of the artists were born in Arezzo or in the vicinity (e.g. Vasari, Spinello Aretino, Luca Signorelli). Do not...More

Situated in a large palace with a central courtyard this is a wonderful (and deserted) art gallery. We were there when it was hosting an exhibition of Medieval Tuscan art. It included a superb tryptic by Filipo Lippi. To be alone with all this great...More
