Valle dei Templi -- Valley of the Temples UNESCO World Heritage Site -- A Must Visit in Agrigento
Nov 2021
The extensive Greek ruins at Valle dei Templi -- Valley of the Temples make it clear why this is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This is a MUST see location if you are anywhere near Agrigento, Sicily. Wear comfortable walking shoes! We visited in November 2021 -- which I believe was ideal because there were other tourists but zero crowds or lines. Our tour guide said that in August he and his group waited for 2 hours to buy entry tickets. We had ZERO wait. Go off season and dress in layers. It was cool and drizzling rain when we arrived and hot and sunny when we left. So, if you go off season plan for any weather -- and enjoy! If you go in summer, be prepared for HOT weather and be prepared to stand in long lines. But, the wait will still be worth it!

Also, be sure to include time in your schedule to visit the Regional Archaeological Museum “Pietro Griffo” in Agrigento after you tour the Valley of Temples. It is one of the most important archaeological museums in Sicily and it has an extensive and well presented collection.

Quite stunning, not to be missed.

Quite stunning and fantastic value for money. (€12). We walked down from the centre of Agrigento, took about thirty minutes, downhill.
The whole site is wonderful, well laid out, good story boards and quite spectacular.....
History buffs will have have a field day and the rest of us can just take lots of photo's...... we were blessed with a lovely sunny day which showed the temples off in all their glory. Another benefit of visiting off peak in November is that it's not busy, few people around....
You can only marvel at the construction of this site all those years ago.

We spent over two hours touring the site and then walked back up to Agrigento.......

WOW!

The temple was a knockout. My wife was dumbstruck by its beauty. If you can time your visit so you have some time after dark so you can enjoy the ambiance of the lights.

This a must see if you're touring Sicily. I was fortunate enough to have a private tour of the Temples as part of my overall private tour with Sicily Tours based in Syracuse. Our guide, Ezra was enormously knowledgeable of the history of this special place. You will see only the 2nd best preserved Greek Temple in the world, the one other on located in Greece. The views of the surrounding area from the Temples are just great taking and you really understand why the Valle Dei Templi was a selected area by the Greeks, Romans, etc. Absolutely a must see in the Agrigento area...and in all Sicily..

Go in the evening if you can

As it gets dark earlier in autumn we were lucky to enjoy a beautiful sunset and the illuminated temples before the park closes at 20:00.

Wonderful staff
Oct 2021
This is a most impressive site. I can't believe how old these structures are and the scenery only enhances their beauty. The grounds are well-maintained. For those who don't want to walk the distance there is a shuttle for a slight fee. I need to add that the staff was unbelievably helpful. My husband and I got lost from each other and he didn't have a phone and I didn't have a hotspot. The staff went so far above and beyond helping us reconnect. Gaspar and Lara were to be commended for such wonderful service. I highly recommend this archeological site.
