You can visit between 9-11am, as a non muslim. The man prayer hall is very impressive. Go as early as possible to have the best light for photographs outside and to avoid the hordes of guided groups.

The interior of the Grand Mosque is very impressive as to size/scale, workmanship and detail. The fit, finish and material used inside is impressive. Worth the time. ABOVE ALL have your tour or hotel if you "going it on your own" check ahead that you will be allowed to enter at the time you will arrive. I found the printed... More

Until you visit you cannot appreciate the size of this mosque. Arches and minarets and lovely gardens. You need to check the visiting times as we could not go in when we visited but could appreciate its beauty from the outside. This will definitely be on our itinerary for the next visit.

If you want to see the Omani culture, kindness and tolerance .. visit this mosque. It is good combination of building beauty and magic. I strongly recommend to visit it & buy the mosque information book. There is place in the mosque where you can ask about it & Oman and you can taste the Omani coffee & dates.

Really enjoyed my visit here- immaculately kept and incredibly peaceful. And your breath is taken away when you go in the main mosque itself

Well worth a visit, although very modern the mosque has an air of serenity. The audio guide at 2.5 OR was well worth while succinct but informative and we learnt a lot about Islam - and were able to learn more at the very welcoming Islamic information centre

Visited this mosque as part of our trip around Muscat. It is a very impressive building. Even though, I thought I was well covered to enter the mosque, the security guard had different ideas. As my wrists were showing. I was ordered to cover up.

If you decide to go to the mosque, you must make sure to go on a free tour offered by the mosque guide. It's at 10 am, 11 am and I think 5 pm. The difference is that if you are on this tour, you get to go to the very place where people pray and much closer to everything... More
