Overview
More
Ghalyas Museum of Modern Art It invites visitors to explore Oman’s past, present and future aura, being welcomed not by one person, or several people, but by a whole culture. The display of modern works, in conjunction with the historic life of the 50s and 70s is intended to create a feeling that the “inner” Omani continues forever unchanging. With a permanent collection of heritage, culture, tradition and art, Ghalya's Museum of Modern Art serves as a museum and a showcase.

Came upon this little museum when walking about the port. Found it fascinating. Glimpses of a past existence for the Omani people. Interesting fact sheet in English explains each room in detail. Not really an art gallery more a museum but really fascinating.

Not so big as to take up too much of your time. Small and thoughtfully put together historical museum based on homelife in Oman from the 1950's to 70's. Also, small fashion section of women's appropriate Omani wedding dresses by top designers such as Dior...More

This is less about modern art and more about Omani culture. A series of rooms showing the inside of traditional Omani dwellings from about the 1960s - 1970s i.e immediately before and after the current Sultan. The wedding room was stunningly beautiful.

Not actually a Museum of Modern Art, but a museum of daily life in Muscat over several decades. I really enjoyed it.

Exhibition based on the changes in Muscat before and after the 1970s housed in an Omani home with evocative exhibits of the transition. Particularly enjoyed the stunning photographs in the gallery
