Worth it but be prepared for a longish walk
Apr 2020
The trek up to the top from the car park at Le Flon is hard work (over an hour whatever way you go). Although there were several vehicles further up, obviously not authorized, the road is strictly no go (especially for vehicles not 4x4) for the ordinary person. So you need a good rucksack if you want to take picnic stuff to the lake.
When you finally get to the top of the path, there is another 10-15 minutes down to the lake, so be prepared for that!
The scenery is stunning; when we went (during the Corona virus scare), the car park was full, but the wanderers kept themselves apart. There was snow at the top, so a bit slippery - beware! - and of course all the restaurants were closed...

The ten of us, including 6 children, had a great time there. Friendly staff and good food after a nice walk in the snow.

Lac de Tanay provides a wonderful Swiss hiking experience. It is a decent elevation (~1,300ft over >2 miles) hike up to the top, where it levels out and opens up to a quintessential little Swiss hamlet on a beautiful alpine lake. There are two restaurants at the top with outdoor and indoor seating and traditional Swiss offerings like fondue, providing the ideal way to rest and refuel after the hike. There is also plenty of space for picnics along the lake and a few barbecue grills installed as well.

The parking lot at the trail head (Parking du Flon) fills up fast on the weekend, and there are no toilets at the bottom (there are at the top), so plan accordingly. If doing this hike with small children would highly recommend a carrier option if they get tired during the ascent up.

Lovely

We hiked up with our young children. We arrived mid morning and the car park was full, so we had to park on the road around 20 minutes walk from the main car park. The hike up is quite steep, so make sure you wear sensible shoes and take plenty of water. It takes around 1 hour from the main car park. I would say you have to be reasonably fit to manage the walk.

The walking path was closed, so we had to walk up the track/road used by the 4x4 taxis. It was slightly annoying having to walk to side each time a car came past, especially as the road is quite narrow in places.

At the top, the lake is lovely and next to a small village with a handful of restaurants. There are quite a few people who come here, although the parts around the lake were not overly crowded.

The scenery is lovely and it’s possible to swim in the lake.

The only slight negative is that there are areas where it’s obvious people have had barbecues, and there was some broken glass and cigarette ends in one part. It’s not a massive problem and isn’t all around the lake though.

Brutal but beautiful

Starting from the car park there is a 400 metre rise in elevation over about 2.5km. Not really a walk for the unfit. It took me about 50 minutes up

The footpath remains closed so the gravel road provides the main route up. I walked up in 25C+ temperature in July so the ground was very dry. The worst part of the walk was the dust kicked up by the 4x4s passing up and down the road.

Once at the top, views and the lake are spectacular - Picture postcard

Well worth the effort.

Lovely walk

Great walk, unfortunately had to take road as path shut off for works. Walk around pretty but lake too cold for swimming. From here can continue up to a number of higher points with spectacular views. Going down tough with slippery gravel.

Lac de Tanay in Vouvry Switzerland is located in the Swiss Alps and is a glacial fed Alpine lake with stunning views. There are an abundance of lakes such as there in the Alps.

Known for it's challenging hiking which takes a good hour. Then you can swim.

Part of our grand tour of all countries bordering the Alps.

Paradise on earth

Worth every minute of struggle to reach it . Even kids loved it. I highly recommend it. You have 2 options a long 2h30 hike or a 50 min hike. Then on top of the mountain besides the amazing view you can enjoy a beer or a meal in a super tasty restaurant with the lake view. Some people even sleep over there as there is a bed and breakfast option. Water is cold but swimable in the summer. Perfect for picnic and family gathering.
