Oldest Operating Abbey in Italy
Sep 2019 • Solo
This is a find. The abbey dates back to the 8th century. The internal walls are adorned with the frescos of Giotto’s students. In the cript are the remains of St Anistasia in a beautiful carved marble casket. In a addition a wooden Pietà dating back (darn cannot rememberthe date). Made as I understand by a German. Artisan.
Tours of the Church are available and conducted by the church curators. The entrance to the Abbey is surrounded by a wall and most. The the bell tower and clock rose above the town and can be seen from a distance. The abbey adjoins the gardens of Burovich which have beautiful roses in bloom in spring and summer. It is a quite space to relax and reflect. It is also the place to park your car.
Once seeing the church one can take a coffee at on or two of the coffee shops of the Abate Armano the hotel in the square or enjoy a lunch or Dinner at Al Grappolo. Good local food made from produce within the region. Remember that each coffee shop and restaurant does have its one day off. I know for Al grappolo it is a Monday.
Then one can venture out to other parts of the area . There is the Mulino and Fontana di Vincaredo. Only a short distance away. It is said that Tiepolo writes his poems at the fountain.
The there are other villages close by like Cordovado which also has some beautiful building , discover Friuli for yourself it is not overrun by tourists

A glimpse into glorious past of an enchanting little town
Jul 2018 • Friends
I have visited the Abbey a few times, but each time I 'discover' something new, regardless of the ongoing restauration work. The setting around the Abbey is picturesque as it is situated in the quaint little town of Sesto al Reghena. The town itself has a long and proud history as it played an important role in antiquity. The narrow cobbled streets leading to the Abbey are a delight by themselves and are quite romantic too. There is a parking at the town square, which makes this historic place easily accessible. The Abbey is hidden just behind the arched entrance where one can delight in its colourful art treasures and step back in time. There are thoughtfully displayed photos of some of the architectural details that had been sent for restoration. The place always leaves visitors enchanted and privileged to have had the opportunity to see this historic jewel.

Main frescoes are under restoration
Oct 2017 • Friends
This would be a resounding 'excellent ' rating, if only you could see all of the wonderful cycle of frescoes painted between the 12th and 15th centuries. Unfortunately, much of these are behind scaffolding and protective coverings while restoration work is done. What you can see gives a tantalising glimpse of the full glory of this remarkable church, which forms part of what was once a fortified Benedictine Abbey. The exterior of the buildings are lovely, as is the archway into the Abbey complex. Worth visiting, but even more so when the restoration work is finished.

Old abbey with no-photo rule
Mar 2017 • Couples
This Abbey originally built in the 8th century is in a little world all its own. You walk through an arched entrance into a piazza with the Abbey buildings surrounding. The church can be accessed by a long hallway with facing frescoes of hell and paradise. Paradise is mostly intact and is quite marvelous. The church has more frescoes. you are not allowed to take photos of anything and they are quite adamant about it. I was admonished quite vociferously. Be sure to bring along change to illuminate the dark areas. There is a fee to enter and they observe a very long lunchtime closing. (Noon to 3)

This is one of those small places where Time stops and you can be 70 in 18th century. The Abbey is well preserved and we could not visit inside since it was Monday, but I saw pictures and it looks populace. Italy has many little gems:this is 1

Charming and memorable
Jul 2015 • Family
If by any chance you have the chance to go to a concert in this corner of the Universe, do not hesitate, it would be without any doubt a fantastic experience, intimate as any (maybe 300 people at most).

The place itself is very nice and eve though the town is not big, this is a place you should take a look at.

Charming old abbey, full of history
Jun 2014 • Couples
This part of Italy is so little known yet contains so much rich history from across all the centuries. The old Benedictine Abbey at Sesto al Reghena is well worth a visit. It has a lovely calm atmosphere, beside a beautiful river which flows through the village. It is only a few minutes from the main Venice-Trieste motorway (the exit to Portogruaro) but you feel transported back in time. It deserves to be better known.
