Home of the Marquess of Anglesey, with spectacular views of Snowdonia.Set on the shores of the Menai Strait amidst breathtakingly beautiful scenery, this elegant house was redesigned by James Wyatt in the 18th century. The 1930s restyled interior is famous for its Rex Whistler association, containing his largest painting and exhibition.A military museum contains relics from the 1st Marquess of Anglesey's tenure, who commanded the cavalry at the Battle of Waterloo. There's a fine spring garden and Australasian arboretum, with an understorey of shrubs and wild flowers, a summer terrace, and massed hydrangeas which give autumn colour.A woodland walk gives access to a marine path beside the Menai Strait.

Great spot for taking in the scenery of the area. Can get some lovely views after you have finished your tour and explore. The grounds and gardens formed the focus of our visit. We enjoyed.

We called in (again) this September. We had a lovely visit and the weather was very kind. We worked the visit "back to front" as most visitors want to see the house first. We did not. After a very welcome "al-fresco" lunch in the kitchen garden we toured the gardens and were very pleased to see a high level of... More

This is a lovely NT property to visit. The volunteers are extremely helpful and informative. We learnt that the family who lived in the property originally came from Staffordshire, near to where we live. This added an extra dimension to our visit. We attempted to explore the grounds but got caught in a shower. We went back indoors and took... More

We were favoured with great weather for mid October and were able to enjoy the great walks around the estate as well as the house The House is really interesting and the Whistler mural is so fascinating as is the room with the work by this artist. Another great National Trust property worth seeking out

After seeing Plas Newydd being televised on the BBC programme 'Antiques Roadshow' it was a must to visit during our stay in Beaumaris Angelsey ..We were not disappointed the house was beautifully situated and its grounds stretched down to the Menai Straits showing the Britannia bridge in all its glory...all the amenities including the tea shop were very satisfactory .........the... Just about everyone has to travel to this national trust house, and there is lots to see in the house and the surrounding gardens. Overlooking the Menai Straits most anyone can sit and watch the speed of the current as it ebbs and flows, truly a must see. However the food needs lots of improvement, and the layout of the... As a National Trust member the Plas Newydd is one of Anglesey little gems, plenty to see and do, it has a good restaurant and offers a wide choice of dishes, the Sunday lunch menu is quite a popular one. Sporting fabulous views over the Menai straits and looking towards the two rather iconic bridges, a must if you are... More

We were blessed with a perfect day on which to visit this delightful house and grounds and saw it at its very best. The house with the back cloth of the Menai Straits is lovely, the National Trust staff were really helpful and informative and the house is a pleasure to walk round. The highlight of the visit is the... More
