Aphrodisias is a perfectly beautiful and interesting 2-3hr stopover on the drive from Selcuk to Pamukkale. Roads are very good and well signed, so we fit the round trip by rental car into one long, but very rewarding day - need to be on the road by 7am. The Selcuk-Aphrodisias (150km) and Aphrodisias-Pamukkale (130km) segments each took us about 2hrs.... More

The ancient city of Aphrodisias was an experience I won't ever forget. When I saw the Tetrapylon (monumental gate), the beauty stopped me in my tracks. To stand there, to walk around it and through it...was transporting. I am so in awe of the history, culture, engineering and remarkable beauty. It is truly, sacred. The sculpture school, and the many... More

This is a large site with plenty of archaeology to explore. Used to be a school for stone masons so has huge number of artefacts to see. The museum on site is well stocked and presents the history of the site very well. Ancient Greece to mid 20th century, the site was a village with homes utilising Ancient Greek buildings... More

We were extremely impressed with Aphrodisias which offers everything that a "culture Vulture" is looking for - great ruins, fantastic stadium in original condition, plus a moderm museum as well as all the essentials such as a restaurant etc. Superbly presented - with more to be found!

Not to be missed! An hour away from Pamukkale, good roads, easy drive. Entrance fee is 15 TL, amazing museum, cafe and restrooms on site. City is easy to walk around, many areas are well preserved but you can see there is still much preservation work to be done. The temples are absolutely gorgeous! Wear good comfortable shoes and in... The stadium alone makes the trip worth the while and then there are the other ruins and the museum. The museum is really worth visiting,

The place is huge and currently still being uncovered as we speak. The museum at the entrance includes some fine statues. Make sure you visit the main hall which has very impressive statues showing popular figures like Prometheus. The place usually lacks labels so either buy an audio guide or a book if you intend to go around. Also if... More

A fantastic archeological site. One I had never heard of and I cannot understand why it is not better known. The Stadium alone is worth the voyage !

Aphrodisias, a small ancient city named after the Greek goddess of love Aphrodite. The site is well preserved hence the beauty of the ruins immediately captivated us. It looked like we were inside a picture of a postcard. There is a museum as well where various sculptures are housed. Definitely worth a visit. Wear comfy shoes since there is a... More
