An Excellent Reminder of What Factory Life Once Was
Oct 2019 • Couples
My wife and our son were the only visitors to the S.M.I. on a cloudy October day. When my wife asked our guide, Maria, if she spoke English, she quickly agreed.

Starting in the museum, Maria gave us a clear understanding of the manufacturing process for shells, and she added a few insights into the Kennedy assassination as well. She spoke with passion and enthusiasm of the factory and its “Crazy” house as well as the people who worked there.

As we entered the shelter, Maria explained how the design of the entrance helped to make it a safer place if attacked. Once in the shelter, she spoke of how it was use during and after the war. She also told us of the plans underway to explain the area available for visitors to see, hopefully by next year.

It was a very memorable experience brought to life by Maria’s excellent commentary. We thank her for bringing this place to life for us.

The museum is one of the most important museums and war memorials of this area. It concentrates some of the most iconic buildings of the Second World War.

Most interesting!

I didn't know what to expect here. The guide was very good and passionate about his subject. The history was ver interesting. We did a tour of the museum and then we went into the underground hospital. Not for the faint hearted!! My husband is disabled so he was able to watch a historical film. The underground area was very interesting. It is somewhere that I am very glad I visited but would not visit the unground area again. This is only a personal feeling!! At 63 years of age the 125 steps will not always be possible. A great piece of history!! Toilet facilities are excellent and so clean.
