About
The rich repertoire of the mental culture of Kuusalu was discovered already by the fellow workers of Dr. Jakob Hurt. The first one who started collection was Gustav Vilbaste who visited all the households in almost all the villages in the parish in 1910–1913. In 1960, a society of local history was registered in Kuusalu Community Centre under his leadership. In 1966, a museum of local history was opened for all guests in Kuusalu vicarage. It is possible to have a look at the exhibition “Wedding customs in Kuusalu Parish” and the photo exhibition “Home in the eyes of children” prepared of the works of students of the photo circle of Kolga School and film strips of Kuusalu Parish made in 1930–1987 from the Estonian Film Archives.

Place, where consequences of the Soviet occupation are so obvious
Jul 2018 • Couples
Along the way form Kiiu vassal castle to Palmse manor we drop in the Kolga manor. This turned around to be the place, where consequences of the Soviet occupation are so obvious. Kolga manor had been a huge and rich manor, but during the Soviet occupation all buildings were casted down. Even some maintenance and reconstruction works are performed, it will take numerous years and huge effort to return some splendour to this great architectural ensemble.

If only someone fixed it up

We didn't actually visit the museum bit and only had a short stroll before going to see a play in the manor. It has to be one of the biggest manors I've seen in Estonia - both the building and the overall area are massive for such a small country. Even the 'tree alley' leading to the manor is a pretty long one. However, it's all in ruins and at least in the evening most of the access was denied. We could only see the restaurant area and a bit of the 1st floor where the play was situated (I'm not sure if this would normally be free to visit). You can stroll around outside, but otherwise there isn't much else to do.

Great monument in desperate need of tender, love and care

Great historicale buildings that need maintenance. Information in multiple languages about its past, present and future is recommendable. Funding or local investment can make this milestone in local Estonian history a site worth visiting.

Not really worth visiting
Jul 2015 • Couples
Unfortunately there is nothing to see except the exterior of the manor buildings. Disappointment in every way. The village itself is insignificant.

Ruins of a great manor
Jul 2015 • Couples
Kolga used to be the largest manor of Estonia. The building is huge, you could say palatial. But it is just a shell in ruins. Everything is closed up. The museum, the restaurant, the accommodation, all closed.
