Arriving early for the castle visit we were entranced by the wild beauty of the walled garden.Zones of colour surrounding small verdant lawns in the delicious state of only just being under control.Supplemented by the formal gardens adjacent and the forest walks the visit to the castle itself became almost an afterthought yet it's interesting display rooms, links with the Jacobites... A 'typical' Scottish castle with extensive grounds. The castle itself is very interesting but be aware that you have to follow a one way system which involves climbing 6(?) sets of stairs; well worth it if able to but may be a struggle if you have mobility problems. The extensive grounds include a large and varied walled garden which we... More

This is a really nice place to visit, looked after by the National Trust. We went on a nice sunny day - both the castle and the gardens were lovely. The volunteers made you feel welcome and the information provided was interesting. There is also a Go Ape Tree climbing area in the grounds for those so inclined.

Visited here with my husband and 9 year old daughter and her friend. Went round the castle which was very interesting. The girls were given an activity to do as we went through the rooms which kept them busy. There are staff throughout for you to ask questions should you need to. Had the usual cuppa and fine piece while... More

We just visited the grounds and garden. These were as usual immaculate. Plenty of space to explore so the kids would love it. Our son did in days past. Several great trails.

I'm a Burnett, so coming to see Crathes Castle had special significance to me. The Castle, as an attraction, was very well run, with very knowledgable staff stationed throughout the castle to explain what life was like, living there in the 1600s to 1900s. The grounds were beautiful, so if you have time, you should see the Victorian garden, but... More

While spending a few days in Banchory, visited Crathes Castle on a wet afternoon. Very good way to spend an afternoon out of the rain. Was very impressed with the staff/volunteers' knowledge and enthusiasm, they are a credit to the National Trust. The gardens were very impressive and we wished the weather had been kinder to us as I felt... More
