The Famed Botanical Gardens has sadly lost much of it's magic... Gone is The Museum which for many years was one of the great local cultural attractions... Now the shell lies empty and somewhat forlorn... The gardens now seem neglected and presumably suffering from Local Authority cuts... The rowing boats have gone, the lake is becoming stagnant, and a general... More

We have walked to the Gardens on may occasions, they are beautiful. The flowers and lawnsare in first class condition, lovely to walk around, have an icecream in the cafe or tea/coffee/soft drink. Also has an avery with lots of birds, can also buy plants from the on site garden centre.

Botanic Gardens is kept spotlessly clean by volunteers. The flower beds are beautiful and you can buy plants very cheaply from near the cafe. The cafe staff are very friendly and you can take your dog into the cafe. There are 2 play areas although the new area doesn't have much in it and can get muddy. There is a... More

The local council need to spend some money here to bring it back up to the standard it used to be because it's all looking very 'tired'

Situated in the oldest part of the town (Churchtown) this is a lovely park despite all of the council cuts in recent years. There is a boating lake but sadly now no rowing boats, bring some bread or better still some proper bird feed for the numerous ducks. The museum is now closed (thanks to the council) but there is... Sefton Council highlighted for further closures within the park which would see the loss of the Botanic Gardens Fernary, Aviery, Garden Nursery and Toilets along with the Conservatory at Hesketh Park. A group of local residents formed to save the remaining facilities at both parks, in particular at Botanic Gardens, which has already lost the museum, boats on the lake,... More

Our family (3 generations) have been visiting the Botanical Gardens since the 1960's when they were in their prime and the boating lake was clear water with hire boats available. The boats have gone, the lake is full of weed, there are fewer animals and the tropical house is now kept locked (pity as the species in there were fascinating).... More
