In Illfracombe on holiday and saw this amazing sculpture. Different from varying angles. It stands so tall and shows strength, knowledge, fairness and balance and inner body. It is amazing. A must see for its scale and detail.

On our recent visit to Ilfracombe we went round to the harbour and came across this statue. Apparently it has been loaned to the town for twenty years from its erection in 2012 in a bid to boost visitors. I'm sure fans of Damian Hirst...More

Pretty ugly piece of work in my opinion, and doesn't do the town any favours apart from its own notoriety.

the least impressive thing in Ilfracombe, why on earth has it been put there to spoil the surrounding view, probably should have been put outside the towers which used to be the theatre the second worst thing in ilfracombe. s k c & c

Typical Damien Hirst! A very different statue to most you see on coastal resorts but makes you look and talk about it, which I suppose is the point.

I totally agree with everything that you have said on this disgusting eye sore. What were they thinking ! It does not go with the surroundings , something like this would look better in some arty museum or in the city . Putting up a huge statue of a seagul would have made more sense than this verity statue !! Dumb or what ! ! !

A seagull? Better a giant pastry
What exactly is the meaning of the statue? I personally think it's a monstrosity and is totally not in keeping with the village. A statue of a fisherman or lifeboat man would have been more approprate. Roll on the next 9yrs when it can be taken down and tipped over the harbour wall into the sea.
