Blackwell House is just stunning, an amazing place to visit. Every room is full of the most beautiful and inspirational craftwork and design in every medium you could imagine. It's almost sensory overload. The views from the house are great too. The rescue and restoration of the house has been so worthwhile. The work and dedication involved has to be... More

Absolutely stunning house and great views over the lake. Sit on the terrace for a cup of tea and survey the vista.

We normally opt for National Trust properties in the Lakes but out of season, this caught our eye. Heading South out of Bowness, this elevated house is an absolute homage to the Arts and Crafts movement from its architect, Mackie Hugh Bailie Scott. Evocative of this era, with connections to both William Morris and Ruskin, this house is an absolute... More

Blackwell is simply stunning. It was quiet on the day we visited and we were glad of it, it meant we were able to take our time and enjoy the calm atmosphere of the house. The panelling, minstrels gallery and inglenook fireplaces are gorgeous. Even the door handles and window latches are works of art. My favourite piece is the... More

I visited this house about eight years ago, and it's just as delightful second time round. Stunning views over Windermere, and such interesting decor and items in the house. I love that you can sit on the window seats, browse through one of the books dotted around, and admire the views over the lake. The tearoom is small, but the... More

Being familiar with the work of MacIntosh, it was great to see the work of one of his contemporaries. A beautiful house. The craftsmanship in the wood carving is impressive. It was interesting to see the contrast between the medieval style dining hall and the more modern features and details in the other rooms. There is not a great deal... More

Took tons of photos of the various interesting nooks and crannies that were inspired by the arts & crafts of the time.
