We were a group of 4 ( 2 couples ). 2 of us are from Western Australia and two ( my cousins ) from Lincolnshire were doing a camper van holiday of Scotland, including the "North Coast 500" Tourist route during Sept/Oct 2016. Our experience with Kinlay must be as good as it could get in a one day tour.... More

Once again, Kinlay Francis and Orkney Uncovered delivered on exactly what I asked for: a bit more extreme hiking, some Neolithic and Bronze age structures not on the usual line, and no need to follow trails. And because I indicated I wanted a weather challenge, Kinlay recommended a mid-November trip, and he delivered. During our four days, we had gale... More

If you want to see Orkney and learn about the Island and the people, then Kinley is your man. A fount of knowledge, immensely personable, and a proper fun guy to spend time with. Thoroughly recommended and great value for money. Tailor your own trip or leave it all to Kinley - you will not go far wrong. This was... More

This was our second trip with Kinlay and Orkney Uncovered, as he had given us a great tour of Orkney 2 years ago. This time we had Australian visitors with us and we felt this was the best way to give them a good 'feeling' about what Orkney is all about. Needless to say Kinlay didn't let us down and... More

Thank you to Kinlay of Orkney Uncovered for a most informative and magical day in the Orkney Islands. We had picked up our daughter for a trip during her holiday, venturing up to Orkney Islands from Edinburgh and Kinlay was waiting at the ferry for us and returned us to our accommodation in Stromness. His knowledge of the war history and... More

Three friends and I spent a very enjoyable and informative day on a private tour with Kinlay Francis. HIs knowledge of Orkney and its history is extensive and was presented in a way that was very easy to take in, and with just the right amount of humour. He made sure that we were comfortable at all times and provided... More

This was my second visit to Orkney and Kinlay's tour was definitely the highlight. I was particularly interested in the WWII activities but everything was fascinating.

We were four friends (from Sweden) seeing Orkney with Kinlay Francis, on a fine day in September. His wife Kirsty was very helpful in arranging the tour months in advance. The highlight for me personally was a short walk on the cliffs at Yeasnaby - striking scenery. Besides being skilled in everything concerning Orkney, he makes you feel like friends... More

Dear Matts, Thank you so much for your brilliant review. It was great to take you and your friends on your Orkney tour. Glad you loved your walk out to Yesnaby Castle. This is a spectacular location overlooking the North Atlantic. If I remember we had a great day of weather. I do hope to welcome you and your friends... More

Our day spent with Kinaly Francis was simply second to non. His knowledge was broad, deep and very impressive - a true professional in Wartime and Ancient Orkney. He is also a historian for the Royal Naval Association in Orkney, so not surprisingly had many, many interesting stories. As an Orcadian his local knowledge and recommendations were excellent too. Dear Helen, Thank you very much for your superb review and for booking with Orkney Uncovered. Really glad you enjoyed the military history of Orkney as well as the ancient side. Most Orcadians here in Orkney when asked about their history will talk about their family in WWI or WWII in Orkney and Scapa Flow. I do hope to welcome... More

Our tour group of 17 women only had time for a day trip to Orkney mainland. We made the best possible use of that time by booking a tour with Kinlay and Orkney Uncovered. He and his driver met our flight at the airport and whisked us off to the most iconic sights, including Skara Brae and the prehistoric burial... More
