I visited Barnsdale in August with a large party and whilstnI thoroughly enjoyed myself, it was the company rather than the gardens. The gardens were unkempt, full of weeds and poorly maintained. A large collection of hostas, for example was extremely brown presumably due to...More

Sad to say I was rather disappointed. It may have been the time of year but everything looked overgrown & unkempt. Only saw one gardener working when we were there. Maybe spring/early summer would've been better.

These Gardens were the venue some years ago for Gardeners World. In those days Geoff Hamilton was your host and took us around the garden as he was laying it out from scratch. If, like me, you can remember those television days, it is lovely...More

Everyone who loved Geoff Hamilton will get a thrill to see how his inovative garden "rooms" have developed over the years. His muddy knees are still imprinted somewhere in all that soil smothered by beautiful planting...so inspirational to all gardeners. Highly recommended to visit in...More

Sad garden. Unkempt with plants uncared for and weeds everywhere. Lack of colour and imagination. We have wanted to visit for years, but not worth the hours travelling. Staff nice but otherwise a waste of time and money. The nursery was overpriced and the plants...More

I'd wanted to visit Barnsdale for years, but it's some distance so we'd never quite got round to it until last Sunday. Well, it was worth the journey, and then some! Personally I never want to see the gardens at shows, Malvern, Hampton Court etc,...More

Not being dog owners we hadn't taken notice of the arrangements for dogs. It appears that they can't be taken into the garden, but there's a small shaded parking area close to the entrance where they can be left in cars.

I would say a couple of hours :-) Plus a visit to the tea room - afternoon tea is amazing.
