Excellent Ales
Feb 2020
Excellent Uley Pig's Ear and Wye Valley Butty Bach plus real cider from Napton were served from handpump on my visit today. Landlord Baggy acquired this fine pub in 2018 thereby making it a freehouse. Cyclists and walkers were amongst the visitors and I gather that they were welcome to bring their own picnics.

Sad Event!
Jun 2018 • Couples
Came across this pub as we were driving out of Brailes, stopped in the hope of lunch or a drink, but sadly it was closed, the poor owner, a nice man came out to say how sorry he was, but its not worth opening during the day, even at weekends. Such a shame that he has now decided only to open 5pm until 9pm. I wish him luck and hope this great looking pub can survive.

Friendly village pub

I stayed here on Friday night. Ann and Ian were friendly and welcoming, the room had everything I needed: a comfortable bed, TV, hairdryer, a powerful shower, and I had a good cooked breakfast the following morning. Ian also kindly drove me up the road which saved me having to organise alternative transport. I would definitely recommend this place for a stay.

Lovely place with a roaring log fire, very friendly owners and locals alike with excellent food and beer and a very good selection of spirits. Accommodation excellent too.

Lovely, friendly pub
Nov 2016 • Couples
We stayed at the gate inn this weekend and had a fabulous time, the owners Ian and Anne couldn't do enough, right down to Ian driving us himself to Stratford upon Avon (saving us a fortune in cabs)! The pub is a very old pub with immense character, the locals are all friendly and made us feel welcome. Anne cooked us a banging breakfast on both mornings. Would definitely recommend this pub/hotel if visiting the area.
Thank you Ian and Anne x

We were staying nearby and popped in for supper. We loved the atmosphere so went back a second time.

Compared to today's modern pubs The Gate is slightly old fashioned. Nevertheless we thoroughly enjoyed our meals on both occasions. The food is well cooked, fresh and plentiful. The hosts are very friendly as were the regulars. We were made very welcome and wouldn't hesitate to recommend a visit if you are in the area. We would certainly go again if we were in the Cotswolds.

Nice little Pub with available lodging
Feb 2016
Booked a stay here in a triple room. The Pub looked nice and the accomodation was comfortable if you don't mind sharing a lounge area. Unfortunately an emergency came up and the owners were nice enough to cut our stay short without any extra nights charged.

Would recommend for those looking for lodging in the countryside with great access to the costwolds.

We spent the weekend at the Gate with our dog, we ate there both nights and we had great food both morning and evening and with the pub having Hook Norton Beers how could it not be good. Our host were very friendly and looked after us very well.
I would recommend the Gate to anyone.

Dog friendly pub
Aug 2015 • Couples
Character local pub with large outside garden that welcomes dogs in the bar area too. Some great beers and ciders on offer with tasty home cooked food. Welcoming smile from landlord and landlady and a large book collection if you want to read something while having a drink.

Overnight stay
Jun 2015 • Couples
Enjoyed an overnight stay at this welcoming pub. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable and the food excellent. Foods are sourced locally wherever possible. The real ales by Hooky (Hook Norton Brewery) were superb, a wide range of these always available with a guest ale too! The breakfast was lovely with a good choice of 'cooked' items.
