Beautiful Abbey

Really lovely. Worth the drive from Cashel. We arrived late, the church was empty, and gift store closed, was hoping for a rosary.

Lovely old Abbey which has been carefully restored. Peaceful and reflective interior. It oozes ancient times and one could spend time there u disturbed. A little shop sells religious objects and there is also a small coffee shop. These are not open always. Behing the Abbey there is an open air Stations of the Cross.

We couldn't make the standard tour dates so we email with a request to visit. We got a response back quickly that we could meet on our schedule. Our tour guide, John, was FANTASTIC. Knowledgeable in both the history and lore. John spent time with only us showing us around and telling us about so many gorgeous details. I've never... More

Twice a week at 2pm, one of the abbey volunteers gives a tour of the restored abbey. We were with one other couple and our tour guide really brought the place alive with details about its history and wonderful carvings. If we had just wandered around on our own, we would have missed so much. It is located between Kilkenny... More

Although a Cistercian Abbey built in the mid 12th century this is not one for purists as many of the original features have been restored at various periods not always sympathetically. In some places the Cistercian layout is no longer visible. It has been restored to a working church which is nice to see. The setting is lovely and it... More

We arrived just in time for a tour of the abbey. The guide was very knowledgable and entertaining. If you like history and intrigue this is the place to visit.

Not too much to see here. We'd recommend three better options in the area including Kilcooley and Jerpoint Abbeys plus the Athassel Priory.

A beautiful old church with a gorgeous cloisters. Very peaceful and calm inside this lovely building. I am not a Catholic but was struck by the very calm spiritual atmosphere of the place. The river running past is a lovely spot for a little picnic as well

I didnt go into the Abbey itself, but did spend some time reading the old grave stones. Some of them really tell a story within the writings... To the side of the abbey is the ruins of an old inn and infirmary. That was very interesting to look at but l wish they would have let you wander around the... More
