In this area of Wales it would be possible to become overwhelmed by visits to Castles - however this one does provide splendid views of the surrounding countryside, as well as being very interesting structurally.

We visited the castle on a recent house hunting trip. I was surprised by the clean and well preserved ruins and the spectacular river views. Would definitely recommend to others.

This castle is a fairly good example of what our history has to offer. Enjoyed this visit, but it was marred by a couple who insisted on taking their large dog around it and up the narrow - and highly dangerous at times - castle steps. Apart from the fact that it could have fallen, what were they thinking? The... More

We visited Chepstow castle on the way to England from Wales and the castle was amazing. Parking is next to the castle, pay and display and only a few pound for an hour or two. The castle has level on level The castle is managed by Cadw ( free to English heritage in year 2) As you go past the... More

I have always seen the ruins in passing, but have never stopped or went in. We visited the other day and was surprised how nice it was. Plenty of beautiful photos opportunities. Nothing really for the kids to do, would say this was more aimed at adults, but they can run around on the huge grounds. Very relaxed atmosphere. It... More

While I research in detail before I plan a trip, Chepstow Castle was a happy surprise to me. I had set my sights on the quaint town of Chepstow as easily accessible (from Cardiff via train) and it was just as charming as I had hoped with hilly streets, local shops, and its historic medieval wall. It was only when... More

Fabulous setting next to the river with all of its walks. Brilliant day out with Chepstow town and its little shops as well as the museum and park nearby.

Popped in when we arrived in Chepstow. Not too busy, lots of nooks & crannies and spectacular views over the river. The kids (15 year old & 13 year old) enjoyed exploring but beware lots of steps !

Nice castle and views. Liked the wooden floors they put in giving you more of a feel for what it would have been like. Only thing we were disappointed by was the stage and portaloos still around from the gig the night before. And the bar area cutting a chunk of the castle off from us exploring all of it.... More
