We drove here on a recent trip to England from Australia with English friends, having booked well ahead of time. It was an amazing day, the grounds were beautiful and the castle looks very majestic from a distance. As a fan of Downton Abbey, it was wonderful to see the rooms set up with some of the props from filming... More

We spent a magical December night celebrating the holidays at Highclere Castle; this was organized by a tour group. We were picked up in London and taken by coach to the Castle, which was illuminated against the dark winter sky .Small Christmas trees lined the drive and the inside was decorated to the hilt for the holidays. The Countess came... More

You can try to squeeze this into a half day trip but you'll be much happier if you give yourself a day to see everything. They have a lovely high tea, worth it! Added this year - large photos in each room of the DA scene filmed it the room. Each room is MORE dazzling than the show when you... More

We took a day trip from London to Highclere Castle. We did this via a tour group, which was a bit expensive, but it was great not having to personally deal with the traffic in and out of London. If you are a Downton Abbey fan, driving up to the castle will give you chills. If you've never seen the... More

While you shouldn't expect unlimited access because this is still a family home, with a family trying to balance their needs with that of an excited public, I would recommend the visit of Highclere Castle to every Downton Abbey fan. The highs: -Walking through many, not all, but many of the rooms where the show was filmed -A small, but... More

A Christmas trip to highclere. A beautiful sunny December day starting with a charity carol service led by the earl and countess of carnarvon. A cream tea for lunch then a look around the excellent Egyptian exhibition at the base of the house followed by a lovely decorated Christmas tour around the main rooms of highclere castle to the sounds... The tree was gorgeous, choir magical, the stalls expensive but definitely unique in what they were selling, rooms memorising and lunch well priced and tasty. Grounds even on a cold damp Wednesday were immaculate . A lovely day out with a friend for a birthday treat.

As we stayed in Newbury for one night, we visited this "castle" as it is nearby. I said "castle" because it isn't really a castle. It was a house built a few centuries ago, then extended, then the towers were added later too. We were a bit shocked by the price to get in: at £25 per per person, it... More

Have to say this was on our "bucket List" being fans of Downton Abbey. We were a bit shocked to see it, as its no where near as large as the TV costume drama portrays. A nice experience and lady Choristers singing in the main hall made it a pleasant Christmas experience. The place is very popular and it seems... More
