I have been to this museum in Bedford twice this year and the second time was today. It is all about a real quirky religious sect led by Mabel Barltrop who adopted the name "Octavia". There is a lot of pictures with info attached and...More

With two hours to kill in Bedford my hosts recommended the nearby Panacea Museum. It's an extraordinary place celebrating an extraordinary group, the Panacea Society, a mlllenarian group founded to bring the prophecies of Joanna Southcott to the attentions of post great-war society, combining this...More

Fascinating and well presented free museum. Spent a few hours here. Lovely gardens attached. Cant recommend highly enough, though probably not of interest to younger children, or anyone under the age of 15, 16

If you have any interest in fringe religious movements, you'll find this museum captivating. Firstly because the site was so well preserved it still looks very much as it must have during the time of the Panacea Society's heyday. But there's also a huge amount...More

If you take a delight in the eccentricity and, frankly, a little loopy, this is the place for you. A small museum offering the highest standards of presentation celebrating one of the most unusual groups to grace the British religious scene.
