I hadn't visited since school so decided to go with my sisters. It was like visiting for the first time as so much had changed. The entrance fee of £7.60 was modest and the staff helpful with hints of where to start our tour. Glad we listened as there is a definite route to follow. The Roman artefacts on display... More

Interesting building, great interactive activities for 5 yr old to get involved with. Close to the town, quite expensive to get in but then again there is always a lot of funding that has to go into keeping history alive.

Well worth the visit, beautiful gardens. Playground was very popular with families. Cafe on site if you're wanting a cuppa. Short walk from the city centre.

I was lucky enough to go along to Colchester Castle with the school. I have to say this was a truly fabulous trip. We had a tour underground with the most superb guide who had all the children marching along. It is absolutely worth a visit and tour!!

Excellent visit, very warm welcome, extremely good guide who made the children so welcome and they were encouraged to join her in attacking and defending the castle. The displays were also very interesting for them and nice to see please touch notices and garments to try on.

A small but well presented museum with show cases that illustrated history over the past two millennia. Some fascinating exhibits are displayed including examples of Roman glass vessels which I found very interesting. There are also hands on exhibits and the chariot race seemed very popular with younger visitors. The surrounding spacious grounds are well appointed and well worth walking... More

Since the revamp on the castle the visit is a lot better, Do the guided tour as that will allow access to the roof and underneath in the belly where you can see footings. All so the lay out in the display area has been laid out a lot better.

Nice inside son et lumiere. Good range of exhibits well exhibits explained and the interactive chariot race makes you feel like you are in the movie Ben Hur, Charlton Heston would have smiled.
