I made my first visit to this gallery about 5 years ago ... The best thing about the gallery was the ability to park nearby. Very poor building based mainly on image rather than function or practicality. I thought it was time to reflect and...More

This large, exciting looking building, is tucked away behind Colchester's "Old Town". It promises spaces devoted to the arts & local community usage. What we have instead is a vast interior waste-of-space. The large, high-ceilinged entrance foyer has an unimaginative & uninviting cafe, a poorly...More

Went to see the Grayson Perry Exhibition which was marvellous. The hangings from the Wrabness House were on display and we loved the stories of Julie narrated by Grayson. All of his exhibitions have something new to look at and this was definitely worth the...More

Surprised to find this lovely facilty tucked away near the centre of Colchester. We went specifically for the Grayson Perry having visited the house at Wrabness. Looks like there is a lot of cultural activity going on here. Would have liked to have seen the...More

For a long time this impractical, maladministered, vanity white elephant has struggled to find a use or a voice. The vast, absurd, wasted, foyer (pressed into service for nothing more than the sale of coffee and postcards) leads into progressively piffling and disjointed spaces by...More

Firstsite is in an exciting new space near to Colchester Castle. The entrance is spacious and airy with a huge happy Hello banner. We visited to see Grayson Percy's exhibition, 'The Life of Julie Cope' which is a wonderful suite of work including enormous tapestries,...More
