Visited with my 8 and 3 year old children whilst on a trip to the town centre. We all really enjoyed it. We spent around 40 minutes walking around and really liked the dolls houses and clocks. The children both loved that there were things they could touch. It was detailed enough to keep my 8 year old untreated and... More

Whilst visiting Colchester Castle we decided to take a look at Holytrees as it was free. For such a small place they have managed to fit a fair bit in & interactive things for the children as well, in fact one of the rooms is a walk through time of toys which they loved as well as looking at dolls... This little museum is free admission and it really is like visiting the owners and their families, with home videos playing. Showing the kitchen equipment they used in the past. lots of information and fun things to discover for children too. The children's room, shows comparisons of toys past and present. There are questions for them to answer and they... More

I took my class of 12 children with special needs here last week. The visit was unplanned as we were just passing. Although the staff didn't know we were coming until we arrived they couldn't have been more helpful, even though they had an educational visit from another school at the time. There was so much for the children to... More

Hollytrees is a nice way to spend an hour. Its small, but well kept and has lots of small items to see. The childrens room and the clock room are highlights. As its right next door to the castle there is no excuse not to see it really. The gift shop is also nice.

This free museum is right next to Colchester Castle and in my view, it's actually better. Not large but full of interesting items, household stuff, children's toys, especially liked the two dolls' houses, I itched to get my hands on them to play with them! It's on several floors and I didn't see a lift, usually I make a point... More
