Open 7 days a week 7.5 Acres of inspirational Gardens £6.95 admission (under 14's Free). Gravel Garden, extensive Nursery and Tea Room all free to gain access. The Beth Chatto Gardens began in 1960. From an overgrown wasteland with poor gravel soil and boggy hollows, using the principles of ecological planting, it has been transformed into 7 acres of informal garden comprising of the Gravel Garden, Water Garden, Woodland Garden and Scree Garden all harmonising with the surrounding countryside. The gardens are an inspiration to anyone who visits them - the art of planting at its best.

There is also an extensive Nursery with choice of over 2,000 different kinds of mainly herbaceous plants and bulbs.

Light and spacious Tearoom with homemade cakes, light lunches, breakfasts, fresh ground coffee and selection of teas.

If you're into gardening, this is a must in East Anglia. Since 1960 Beth Chatto has been transforming these (7?) acres from nothing into plant nirvana, with a shop to buy plants and interesting souvenirs - eg Tregothnan tea, and chocolate bars by "chocolate and love". Entry fee is worth it for plant aficionados, but on a sunday restaurant seems... More

The gardens here are really beautiful and clearly take a huge amount of upkeep. This is definitely not a rainy day activity though so choose your day to visit wisely. The nursery here is good, you can find much of what is in the gardens for sale. The cafe is nice, the food is pretty basic but it's all you... More

We walked around the gardens for a couple of hours discovering plants that we particularly liked for our own garden. He is an experienced gardener and I just know what I like the look of. Sadly many plants are not labelled and there were not many staff around to advise. We did buy some plants and were pleased with them... More

A return visit after many years but for sure this must be the very best garden in the whole country, Great interest and spectacular planting - came on a damp Monday morning but such is the interest neither weather nor temperature mattered. Quality at every turn, gardens plant centre and shop all a joy. Whatever the season colour to be... More

I don't know anywhere in th country which compares with Beth Chatto.,no matter how many people are,in,site, it always feels very tranquil. New features constantly being developed..of special interest is the dry garden, near the entrance, which is never watered . Pleasant cafe also. Plenty of parking.,plants on sale through exit. Mail order available.

We've been meaning to visit here for a long time and finally got round to seeing it after seeing the lovely Beth Chatto recently on Gardeners World. Beth's achievements here are phenomenal, when you read how the site was when she started it really brings it home how much she has achieved. We are moderately green fingered and take an... More

I had heard so much about this well publicised garden and so made the effort to visit, I had to wait ages in a long line to get lunch that turned out to be poor value for money, really not worth it. I then looked around the garden centre - again the quality of the plants was not exceptional and... More

We visited on a busy Sunday with the family and loved every minute. The gardens were inspirational- such beautiful plantings around every corner. The tea shop was a delight too- we thoroughly enjoyed the scones with jam and cream. Well worth a visit, and you can buy plants too!

Without the name of Beth Chatto just another garden centre but with an overpriced walk around a garden which has plants with no or obscured or broken name plates. Would look better in the summer but won't go for £15 for a30 minute walk.I see more comments about the tea room!
