We couldn't get into the chapel, but the gardens and the almshouses present a lovely oasis in the middle of a busy town. Well worth just spending a few minutes for some peace and quiet.

Browne's hospital is an oasis in the middle of Stamford. The garden takes your breath away first time you see it. The chapel/museum are kept in excellent condition with the jacobean timbers beaming all kept clean by a dedicated resident. A visit by all would not be forgotton. There are almhouses around the back and the residents must feel very... More

Wonderful old building with an enclosed lawn and gardens. Very interesting architecture, with great views from the balcony.

This place is beautiful, and the best part about it, is the actual occupants maintain the place and provide all the tours. There is a history here, and it is well worth the visit to have a look around. The occupants are very friendly and very knowledgeable about the history of Browns. The Gardens are not allowed to be accessed... More

This place is not open very often each year but it is well worth keeping an eye open for one of its open days. The alms houses are actually home to some 12 or so residents and it is they who act as guides. Fascinating history and a tranquil spot in the heart of busy Stamford.

Went as part of a local history group visit. Was a fascinating place with lots of social history. Met a couple of current residents.

The hospital was really an early 18 /19th century care home for former soldiers and the homes around the courtyard at the rear are still in use as such for qualifying Stamford residents. A fascinating place.

When the rich had consciences and felt their obligations. Beautifully designed accommodation from 1500's.
