A little gem for Ipswich, the statue of Grandma Giles sure beats the silly Question Mark of the waterfront. Its real-life history of a man who brought a smile to the faces of many people for many years even if you didn't like the Daily...More

I was never a fan of the Daily Express but my grandparents always read it and it had some of the best cartoons, including Giles. This statue I only noticed today as a few kids were standing on it but it certainly captures the essence...More

In the centre of Ipswich this is a well kept statue of the infamous comic / cartoon strip, also a meeting place. Worth a hunt for on your travels through Ipswich.

Really nice to see a statue that makes you smile. Not one that shows off some forgotten dignitary of celebrity. Well done Ipswich for this one.

Its a great statue of Grandma Giles staring up the road at her 'dad's' office window. Brought back fond memories of the Giles cartoons in the Express newspapers and their annuals during my childhood.

I have been a fan of Giles since a pretty young age, couldn't wait for his annuals to come out each year or have a root through book shops to find his old ones. Grandma, Vera, et al are so iconic of Giles there couldn't...More

I always enjoy stopping to look at this. My parents read the Daily Express many years ago and of course Giles was their top cartoonist. So the figures shown here are familiar from my childhood. Giles often used local buildings in his cartoons, so it's...More
