Not only gratis but original features and furniture and no roping off apart from keeping the one way system so you can inhale the history. Lovely staff, too. I'm not especially a fan of Ed Sheeran, which I know is a treasonable offence in Suffolk, but the exhibition was well worth a visit, very interesting and informative.

Took a trip into Ipswich today, which included a visit to the Christchurch Mansion. Very few visitors when we walked around, meaning no pressure to rush through the rooms. No over zealous guides either, so it was a definite treat to have whole rooms to ourselves. Some lovely paintings and artefacts to look at. Whilst the building is grand inside had a really cosy feel to it. The oldest part had sublime wooden panels; uncovered plaster detail; dimly lit, giving more atmosphere and it felt as if you could be part of a period long gone. We did find more to enjoy with the Ed Sheran exhibit.

Great! Went along to keep She Who Must Be Obeyed company, and in fact thoroughly enjoyed the visit. Beautiful family house but not vast on the scale of some, and as well as the stately home type exhibits one might expect to illustrate life (for the well-to-do) of 300+ years ago, it serves as an art gallery with lovely statuary, and some Constable and Gainsborough originals. Helpful - and knowledgeable - volunteer staff. Great architecture, Educational, and interesting with a wow factor. If you're an Ed Sheeran fan you might enjoy the exhibition which is the first thing you see on the way in. Local boy for a few years, apparently. Not my cup of tea, but the exhibition itself is well done. The Council has done a good job of renovating, repairing and running this as an attraction. Well done them.

This is a large house in Christchurch Park. You have to book tickets online before you visit but these are free. It is very safe in terms of COVID-19 as they regulate entry and flow. The two outstanding features are: a) The current Ed Sheeran exhibition b) The rook with the Constable paintings. Definitely well worth a visit if you are in the area.

Superb collection of portraiture, just a real shame it can’t be displayed properly owing to prolonged Ed Sheehan exhibition (although I understand the council feels indebted to him).
