- curioustravellerxyzLondon, United Kingdom55 contributionsMemories of a lifetimeThis was one of the highlights of our stay in Koh Samui. We booked a speed boat tour, with RS Ruangsri Samui Speed Boat Tour, through our hotel. It was easy, we were picked up around 7am. Drive around Samui picking up other people. Had breakfast and a briefing around 8.30 and by about 9am we were on the boat and on our way. The boat takes about an hour perhaps. It was quite busy but not a problem. When you arrive at the park you can see that the journey was worth it. The snorkelling spot was OK. Nice and deep but we didn’t see many fish. It was however quite chaotic getting off the boat and into the water with my 11 year old daughter but it was worth it. We stopped at a couple of places, it was all stunning, breathtaking. Eventually we stopped off for lunch which was average rice and chicken but the setting was amazing. The point where you can go up the viewpoint we decided not to bother as it was extremely hot, even in August and instead we spent well over an hour just floating around in the blissful settings. The water is crystal clear and as warm as a bath. The backdrop of icon and inspiring. We too a LOT of selfies. We are pleased we stayed in the water it felt extremely special to us. We then went kayaking, which to be honest wasn’t needed. The tour over ran by about an hour. My daughter fell fast asleep on the boat back as did many other people. At the end of the day there was clapping for the crew etc. it was a really special and worthwhile trip. It costs about 2,000 baht each. So on the cheaper side. It was a bit chaotic at times but the memories were for a lifetime. Highly recommended. - John E6 contributionsA great day outA well organized day out on the Red Dragon. The crew were fantastic, very polite and obliging. Excellent service, plenty of food, drinks and organized activities. I think a personal favorite was the kayaking, followed closely by the snorkeling. The weather was kind to us, with sunshine and light winds which made the day out even better.Visited July 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 8 July 2024
- TJB @ Rodney StokeWells, United Kingdom713 contributionsGood option to visit the national marine parkTook a sail boat tour out to the marine park for some kayaking and snorkelling. The weather during our kayaking took a turn for the worse as the wind picked up and the rain came in to the extent that a couple of kayaks capsized. Was a bit of a drama and it all added to the fun, albeit not on the tour itinerary! The snorkelling was a bit underwhelming with poor visibility and therefore little to see which was a shame. We had higher expectations for this but unfortunately the weather ultimately impacted the tour. Crew were very good and the breakfast and lunch provided tasty. Unlimited chilled water and soft drinks were available as well as beer to buy.Visited July 2024Travelled with familyWritten 14 July 2024
- Doc BokVientiane, Laos255 contributionsCalm Blue WatersDefinitely worth taking a day trip to visit. Water is really calm and you can kayak, snorkel and hike around here. The Blue Lagoon is protected so you can't swim there, but it is a beautiful spot to take pictures.Visited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 3 September 2024

We visited the Ang Thong National Park on Jan 2nd, we only organised it the day before: I called someone from a shop I had seen in the Fisherman's Market, she collected the cash (Bht2,000 per person) and sent me by WhatsApp a hand written receipt with the instruction to be at the agency the next day at 8:30am. People are usually picked but we stay at a villa difficult to find and we were happy driving ourselves.
The day was everything it said on the tin: snorkelling 45mns), kayaking (20 mns), walking up to the green lagoon (45 mns), a hearty and tasty lunch (45 mns), free time at a beach with the option to walk to the top of the hill for the view (60 mns).
BUT wherever we went there were other speed boats (another six at the snorkelling point), and we felt rushed and treated like sheep corralled from one place to another.
The experience would have been very different if it had been less crowded.

The park is magnificent but above all do not book with the “Angthong Marine Park” site or the person called Tomas (Safari Boat tour).
He acts as an intermediary and resells the first possible service, which does not correspond to what he told you and what you paid for. You will not have payment confirmation or voucher.
We were supposed to go by speed boat with a meal on the beach, we found ourselves in a big boat having to eat inside (the "Orion", which confirmed to me that Tomas had sold them our places). The program was not at all as announced. We were 4 French in this case.
I reported the problem by email, I was promised a partial refund which never came.

I highly recommend the day trip via boat. We used Oceana Samui Charters (booked from the Ritz-Carlton Koh Samui) and they were excellent. It took 45 minutes or so to get to the national park area from Koh Samui. We snorkeled along a coral reef with lots of fish, and spent some time at a nearby beach. At lunch at a little fishing village and saw some Great Hornbills there. Also hiked up to see the Emerald Lake. It's worth the climb, but just know that the stairs are very steep and it takes about 20 minutes to go up.

Hello, I want to share my experience with Safari Boat Tour or Tan Tour. A company that offers their service for a boat trip to Ang Thong Marine Park from Koh Phangan or Koh Samui. ESCAPE, absolutely. They'll lead from left to right. I was in contact with 3 people for a simple trip with a night on an island. They all throw the ball at each other to confuse you. Fortunately, I had the chip in my ear in advance, because I didn’t get any email response from the dreaded Tomas, supposedly owner of this famous company, obviously after I made the payment. Do not book with them, they also use the web address angthongmarinepark.com, which is a trap even if it seems reliable. Check reviews carefully, always reviews. If there is none, it is suspicious.

Really worth visiting. Beautiful places and amazing views. But couple of things to make the trip best possible: 1. weather, if waves are too big it's not possible to visit all places and boat trip can be difficult, 2. good shoes, viewpoints are nice, but the way up might be hard, especially if wearing only flipflops, 3. Operating company, routes, included activities and services vary between companies.

Not sure which company we used, but it started with collection at hotel, speedboat to first island where we snorkelled for around 30 minutes, back in boat to a different area and a further 20 minutes snorkelling in a cave, then too an island where we kayaked, before walking up a very dangerous trail, for a view point which was worth a decent photo or two; don't try climbing with flip flops on. We then back in boat to a different island for lunch which was good. Not sure when, we also was taken to a lagoon which required a steep stair walk to access. Finally, to the last island for an hour relaxing on the beach (a few monkeys were walking around here). Then back to Samui. A packed day made good by the guides and decent paced speed boat.
As for the national park, so much to see and the guides point out many interesting aspects along the way.

This iconic natural park is accessed by boat of which there are numerous options and price points. It's a wonderful albeit a long day's outing. Those who enjoy snorkeling will find Ang Thong a highlight of their time in Thailand. There are numerous different promotional broucutes available on the island and Google will also assist you with copious information and options.

Took a day trip with some friends to this national park during covid. We spent the entire day swimming, cruising around the fabulous islands, snorkeling, drinking beer and enjoying the completely desolate golden beaches.
We did not see a single other visitor the entire day which really added to the beauty of this spot. Such a great day and can be pretty cheap too!

Hi! I, along with two of my friends, are planning a trip to Koh Samui between 25th-28th December. We have booked a place at Bang rak beach for our entire time there. We plan on hiring a car as two of us can drive.I wanted to know what all we can cover in the island in 2 days?
We wanted to take a day trip to the Mu Ko Ang Thong National Park. Can someone suggest a good tour operator and what will be the average cost of it? Can we book it on spot or pre-booking is better?
Also, any suggestions for 25th night? we will be reaching the island in afternoon.
Thanks for your help!

Is it easier to get to from Ko Samui or Ko Phangan? Or are they equidistant?
Written 29 December 2018
Koh Samui has more options, but really either one is completely doable. Whatever fits your schedule. Bigger boats (and groups) from Samui. Koh Phangan can get you a smaller group. Depends on where you are staying and what your schedule is.
