About
One of the most important monuments of the Renaissance. Close to Hakon’s hall lies the Rosenkrantz Tower, which is considered to be the most important Renaissance era monument in Norway. Parts of the tower are from the 1270s, but it has been built upon several times, both for defensive purposes and as a demonstration of power over the wilful Hanseatic merchants. Old Tower
Oct 2020 • Couples
I saw this medieval costruction during online virtual tour with the guide from Vinol Tours. Very imposing gothic building that was reconstructed in Renaissance centuries. Thick gothic walls. with narrow windows. The tower was erected in XIII-th century by the king Magnus. The Tower got its name later, when Erik Rozenkrantz who was the representative of Danish crown became the governor of Bergen in XVI-th century.

Interesting old tower and exhibitions
Aug 2020 • Couples
Lovely old tower with some interesting displays and history of the area, the tower, the church, and Bergen. Well set out. They are doing more work on the tower and improvements which will I doubt make the experience even better. Suitable for wet day visits, though set in pretty gardens and parkland with cafe nearby if weather nice. Good walks and views from here and it’s possible to climb a steep path to the battlements above the tower for good views over it. Not really suitable for disabled or less able as lots of steep steps.

Medieval and scary in its simplicity
Jul 2020
Start the tour in the dungeons and climb your way up! The stairs are old, worn and very, very narrow! Scary in its simplicity, well worth a visit!

Interesting historical site on the waterfront

Lots of things to see, do, and try on inside the Rosenkrantz Tower. Again it is on the waterfront and the Bergen Card.

Worth it
Feb 2020
We enjoyed visiting this tower come castle come fortress. We climbed stairs to each room and descended the spiral stone stairs. There were interesting exhibits in some rooms, others were fairly clear. One of the most interesting parts was moving within the labyrinth of the building itself.

Great Old Fort
Jan 2020
Visited early morning in January so had the place to ourselves. The tower was under repair so visuals down a bit but the rest of the complex was a good visit. Multilingual sign boards a bonus.

Historic but not open now
Jan 2020 • Friends
Such a significant set of buildings and the historic significance of this fortress is intriguing. But, nothing is open to see in January, so if you know that, it is an easy walk along the wharf, and nice to see

Unassuming tower but worth the visit!

I like the story of this place, the guide was really interesting and gave so much info in a quick visit to this place.

I would suggest you explore all the floors and rooms of this tower. It will be worth your time!

A REAL Castle Experience!
Aug 2019
If you are interested in what a 13th century castle might feel like and want to experience that; this is a great place. I was totally fascinated by the construction and the history of this castle. I'd go back if in Bergen again.
