The church is in a wooded setting not far from a light rail stop. It's free with Bergen Card. It's classic Norse even though it's reconstructed. Bathrooms are available as well.

Worth the easy trip on the light rail if you like historic buildings, unique architecture or wood! Nothing else in the area so it was in and out for us.

The church is very small and there are no placards or explanations available. It is between light rail stations and not super accessible. That said, it's easier to get to without a car than most of the other stave churches and it's a pretty interesting...More

One of the famous stave kirke, viking churches with the roof made like a viking ship upside down. Not too far from the Light Train stop, a place to be seen.

Fantoft is an authentic restoration of a viking church. the totally wooden structure is an architectural marvel and as you stroll through it, you will be amazed at the quality of the woodworking. But walk through slowly as the true beauty is in the details.

We had planned to visit the Stave Church at Urnes near Sogndal a few days ago but didn't make it. We had some free time in Bergen and a car so figured we would visit this Church. It is actually some way out of the...More

It was an easy ride on the tram to the church, and then a 10 minute walk - not too far. The church is lovely, it does not take long to look around but it is nice to get away from the centre of Bergen...More

It was difficult to find this church, but, once I get there, it was worth the trouble. This replica of the 1000 year old original was rebuilt in the 90's after it was burnt down by an arsonist. It's still cool to see and we...More

Came with my husband and two teenagers. We stopped here on the way back to Stavanger from Bergen. At first we were going to spend the morning here - I'm glad we didn't as there's nothing else here. Whilst the church is beautiful, it's small....More

The church is beautifull from the outside, although there is a fence that makes it hard to take good pictures. Also a mean looking security guy that guirds the entrance, yet this is understandable considering the arson that once destroyed the church.. Didn't take a...More

Hi traveller, in November as in any time of year it is easy to get there. You will take the City Rail(Bybanen) from the city park- there is only one line - up to the station called FANTOFT(studentby). You can follow your... More

We took the public transit out and back with no problem. I would check to make sure it is open. It's a little hike up to the church.

You tak the light rail (Bybanen) to the "Fantoft" stop. On the opposite side of the building next to the stop you take follow the road up the hill and then take the path through the forest. From the stop it takes about 10... More
