This was an interesting building to visit, we only piped by quickly in the evening and then again the following morning, it looks more spectacular at night when subtly lit up, worth a visit for an interesting bit of history while you are in Bergen.

We stayed on Kong Oscar Gate, just near the Cathedral. Unfortunately, the church was under going a big renovation so we were not able to go inside. The surrounding area is has lots of interesting little streets and iconic Bergen buildings. We were quite impressed...More

Lovely place to walk around and soak in the history of the area. The grounds are nice. It won't take you more than an hour.

Upon arriving it is obvious there is extensive renovation going on. After trying numerous doors I realized there was no way in. Even the outside is totally wrapped. It is not worth a special trip, though in passing you can see it for what it...More

Unfortunately, due to international bike race our plans were in a serious state of disruption. Arrived after seeing Fortress Museum briefly before Cathedral closing & indicated I would view outside, not presuming that they would 'go out of their way' for me, but they encouraged...More

Visited in August 2017, the cathedral is under construction. May take several months to finish based on construction activities. Avoid the place. Skip Bergen as Natural History museum is also under construction. Hotel rates are outrageous too!

So we were only able to visit for a short time. A beautiful building and Bergen's cathedral. In a nice part of town -- quaint homes.

The history is interesting that it was the first church built after the reformation and therefore Lutheran. But with the extensive renovation going on I would skip this church until it is finished.

I am sure this will be a great place to visit when the restoration is complete, at present much of the building and surrounding area is like a building site. Very old - but unfortunately not much to see at present.

It was under renovation during our most recent visit, so the exterior was covered by tarps. But it's still a fascinating building.
