About
The Church of Our Lady in Trondheim was celebrating its 800th anniversary in 2007 on the evidence that the church was mentioned for the first time in written sources dating from 1207. It was restored in 1739, but parts of the thick walls of the Church are obviously much older. The church is always open for prayers, meditation or just a place to spend time.

Lovely inside with wooden pews and very warm and hospitable. Coffee session on when we visited. Wooden features remind us if a ship? Beautiful porch at its entrance.

What a beautiful medieval church. You are made to feel most welcome. There were drinks outside too on the day we visited in June. It’s close to the main town area.

I visited the church inside during a Trondheim local festival that highlighted its historic places and culture. In the simple church interior I heard an amazing violin concert that held one mesmerized with the acoustics. The history dates far back and reflects Norways history.

Nice, smaller church close to the well known Nidaros dome. When in Trondheim it also worthwhile to visit this smaller church, located only a few minutes away from the Nidaros dome in the direction of the city center. Even though there was a ceremony going on, we were most friendly welcomed and invited to look inside.

I actually found this church by mistake as I was wandering around the central area. It was being used as a drop in centre offering tea and biscuits on the day I was there. At first I was not sure if I could enter and take a photo, but was assured that no one would mind.

I was really pleased I did though and just loved the interior. Hard to believe that this has been here for over 300 years and that a church had been on this site for over 800 years.

I read about this church, but didnt know how to find it! Fortunatelly we saw it while walking in the city center.
It's a very quiet church where you can rest a bit. not too many people inside, but you feel it so warm and friendly.

This church has so much history in Trondheim and although small was the main church for most middle-class families. My relatives were all baptized, married and buried through this church. Coming for a visit was a real connection to decades of families who attended and supported this small church. Lovely location.

One of Trondheim’s oldest buildings is the church dedicated to the Virgin Mary. The Church of Our Lady was built in the 12th century, and is the only medieval building in Trondheim. It was one of the nine Catholic parish churches in the Middle Ages. There were numerous fires throughout the church’s history. After the 1708 fire, the Nidaros Cathedral clergymen refused to rebuild partly because they wanted parishioners to attend the cathedral. In 1906, to fill the gap between the tower and the nave, it was covered with a rococo wall, bordered by two life-size female sculptures. They represent the virtues Caritas (charity) and Faith (hope), that are also represented in the altarpiece. Today the church is run by the City Mission on behalf of Nidaros Cathedral. It is an open church and a place to light candles, pray, seek shelter. The Church of Our Lady is open 24 hours. Besides Sunday services, the church is used as a concert venue.

This small church was the first stop on our tour with Trondheim Tours and while nowhere near as spectacular as Nidaros Cathedral it still had a certain charm about it. According to our guide the church operates as a food shelter for those less fortunate during the colder months.

We were also directed to a stone in the churches wall that was moved during the churches rebuilding.

A brief stop of 10 minutes was enough to have a look inside. Probably not worth going out of your way to see but if in the vicinity it would be a shame to pass it by.

Simply medieval church with a simple interior and a long history. One of the more simply decorated churches in town.
