When the last ice-age reclined, most sensible people stayed in France and Italy savoring the warm sun and golden grapes. Not so for the people that turned out to be Norwegians. They missed the ice, sleet, snow and chronic running nose, and followed the snow...More

We took the Frognersteren metro, and walked right into the woods . First we walked to the television antennas, the highest point of the region, where you have a fantastic view over the Nordmarkka , Oslo and the fjord . From there we made a...More

First off, if you expect Nordmarka to be the big and wild nature, think again. It is not some untouched nature-gone-wild area. There are signposts, gravel and dirt roads, old and narrow trails, dams and brigdes, and people. That being said, you can easily find...More

WE visited a DNT cabin which was cool. The hiking was just like home, upstate NY. Train service made the excursion accessible.

Yes it is. Start at Frognerseteren. Just follow the blue signs and marks. Thats the summer tracks. Try Tryvannstua, Skjennungstua or Ullevålseter for short trips. Kobberhaughytta is nice if you want a 1-2 hour walk each way.

Easiest way is to take metro from Oslo S to either Sognsvann or Frognerseteren and from these final stations you can easily take a walk to the marka.
