The Dorotheum is a favored spot in Vienna. If you are not interested in participating in an auction, there are items that are for direct purchase. The beautiful place is like a museum and well worth a visit. There is a small café to rest before you continue your journey through the amazing floors of jewelry, furniture, rugs, art and... More

The DOROTHEUM Palace is exciting in many ways. You can go there for auctions, you can buy jewellery or you go up to the second floor and enjoy coffee and a cake in the Dorotheum Café. Just a 5 minutes walk from St. Stephen's Cathedral.

If you love antiques, this auction house is not to be missed. It has so many beautiful items. We spent at least 2 hours here, and it was well worth it.

We loved visiting this auction house. Rick Steves had it right. It's like visiting a museum where you can actually buy what you see. What's more it is literally around the corner from the Hofburg and Graben, and you will be seeing those places anyway so you should drop by. It was late on a Monday afternoon when we dropped... Entering the Dorotheum is like entering another world. It is a very old auction house and has galleries of jewelry, paintings and all kinds of collectables. When I was there , there was a beautifully restored Mercedes Benz convertible that was to be auctioned soon. I had intended to go to one of the actual auctions, but somehow ran out... More

Dorotheum has several branches in Vienna - the main one in the city center at Dorotheergasse, one in the 3rd district on Landstrasse and one on Mariahilfer strasse. At each of them you'll find great jewelry for auction and from private people selling off jewelry. But the main attraction is really to visit Dorotheum in the city center: it's a... More

I was here before and it never fails to interest me.The building itself is so interesting, the cafe is never crowded and it is always fun to look at the items going to auction. I did see an ongoing auction last time I was here and it was something to experience! My favorite thing is looking at the antique jewelry and... More

Staying in Inner City

Neighbourhood Profile
Inner City
In Vienna's best-known district, pedestrian boulevards Kärntner Strasse and Graben connect you with landmarks such as the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera), Vienna’s iconic Stephansdom (St. Stephen’s Cathedral) and the vast compound of Hofburg, the Habsburgs’ former Imperial Palace. Peek down side streets such as Annagasse and Weihburggasse, and Graben’s Seilergasse and Habsburggasse, to get a feel for the centre. The Imperial Apartments and the refreshingly demystifying Sissi Museum are must-dos at Hofburg. Spacious squares such as Am Hof and Freyung often host beautiful seasonal and antiques markets.
