This square is always busy, with many tourists, locals, salesmen, etc and as such is a great place to sit, relax and watch the people.

It's really beautiful, although lots of construction work around it at the moment so couldn't fully appreciate it. Was pleased to be able to go inside for free and have a look at the inside although wasn't really sure why the statues were covered in foil? I expect something to do with preservation.

Popular tourist attraction in Vienna. Also popular meeting place. Close to nice restaurants and other points of attraction, like Fighlmuller, Karlsplatz, Graben and Hoffburg Palace. In summer, you can enjoy drinks and snacks outside with a gorgeous view of the cathedral.

If you come to Vienna, you have to see the Stephan's Church, and it is surrounded by one of the busiest walking streets in the city. Great people watching spot.

This square is really busy full of local people and tourists. We enjoyed the special mirror offered by the modern buildings to show the elegant beauty of the gothis cathedral.

This is the plaza where St Stephens Cathedral is and round the corner is the Anker Clock. It's very crowded at all times of the day as there are many restaurants and shops around here but it's lovely to wander the streets and enjoy the main centre point of Vienna.

We had lunch at a pavement cafe here and really enjoyed the buzz of the area. Nearby are the cathedral and also streets of designer shops, all decked out with beautiful window displays for Easter.

Frankly the square in itself is not very interesting but of course the cathedral take all your attention! Full of life with cafe and high street shops and buskers a bit too commercial for my likely but otherwise I think that give you a very clear idea of the Inner Vienna.

Staying in Inner City

Neighbourhood Profile
Inner City
In Vienna's best-known district, pedestrian boulevards Kärntner Strasse and Graben connect you with landmarks such as the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera), Vienna’s iconic Stephansdom (St. Stephen’s Cathedral) and the vast compound of Hofburg, the Habsburgs’ former Imperial Palace. Peek down side streets such as Annagasse and Weihburggasse, and Graben’s Seilergasse and Habsburggasse, to get a feel for the centre. The Imperial Apartments and the refreshingly demystifying Sissi Museum are must-dos at Hofburg. Spacious squares such as Am Hof and Freyung often host beautiful seasonal and antiques markets.
