This is a major shopping street leading from the centre of town to the Europa Platz and Westbahnhof and beyond towards Schonbrunn Palace. The section to the Europa Platz is pedestrianised and contains larger shops as well as smaller ones. The side streets also have a variety of shops and restaurants and bars. Beyond the Europa Platz (and Westbahnhof) the... More

MariaHilfer Str. is a wonderful middle-class promenade of shops, clothing stores, a movie theater, an optician, a couple of food markets (one underground) and plenty of reasonably priced restaurants. If you're visiting Vienna, it's a must-see. If you're in Vienna for any length of time, it's a very useful place to know about. In the middle of the mile is... More

As many towns have their shopping street, so does Vienna. This street is very very very long and has a lot of mid range stores. If you are lucky, you will catch the discounts. Many restaurants, bars etc are here. I couldn't exactly understand why there are cars somewhere and where not, so be careful as it is not fully... More

Since they turned Mariahilferstrasse into a shared zone, it has become one of my favorite walks in the city. A great place to do some shopping.

A high street (shopping) that goes up a hill just behind the museum quarter. Many recognisable brands such as H&M, Jack Wolfskin, American Apparel and also the usual eateries such as McDonalds and Starbucks. There's also a Vapiano, and a great Italian Gelato place called Bortolloni's - highly recommend - and for more culture there is also a little Catholic... More

This is a really long street with many many mid range shops selling almost everything but mostly based on clothing. This street has really large pavements, among the largest in Europe! Some nice buildings and Tyrolean churches exist along this street that is a little faraway from the bustling Stephans platz. If you want to make some shopping without spending... More

Take a tram or taxi or walk to see the amazing city scape in the evening. Looks great in Winter but wrap up!

My hotel was on this street. On the week-end it is full of people because of shopping opportunity (not high end shopping). There are local restaurants but also chains like McDonald's and Starbucks. It is a very central street. I mainly recommend this street for Bortolotti.

Neighbourhood Profile
Mariahilf
Vienna’s sixth district hosts high street shopping heaven and pedestrian area Mariahilfer Strasse. The weirdest local building is probably the city aquarium Haus des Meeres, housed in one of Vienna’s six remaining World War II defense towers, and topped with a rooftop bar that offers stunning views over Vienna and the centre. One of the most historic sites in the area is the passageway of 18th century Raimundhof with its small shops and cafés. It leads from Mariahilfer Strasse to Windmühlgasse. For a glimpse into the world of early 19th century theater, visit Semperdepot, the former depository for theatre decoration, which now hosts art exhibitions and fairs.
