For centuries the Vienna Hofburg was the centre of the Habsburg empire. Today the palace houses three museums which afford historically authentic insights into the traditions and everyday life of the imperial court: The Imperial Apartments with their original furnishings and decoration, the Sisi Museum with its sensitive staging of the empress' life, and the Imperial Silver Collection which contains a comprehensive range of tableware and other utensils used at the imperial court.

The Hofburg is the former imperial palace in the center of Vienna. Built in the 13th century and expanded in the centuries since, the palace has been the seat of power of the Habsburg dynasty rulers, and today the official residence and workplace of the President of Austria. It was the principal imperial winter residence, as Schönbrunn Palace was the... More

There is so much to see and there is so much history here. The Imperial Apartments were amazing, go early and take your time walking through. I also suggest the audio guided tour, it is very interesting. We also went through the Sisi Museum. We did not know what to expect but it is also well worth your time.

We spent more than 2 hours going around the Imperial Palace, including the Sisi Museum and Silver Collection. This was a great place to start our Vienna holiday since we got to know a lot about the history of the Habsburgs and Vienna itself.

What a fantastic place for a formal Ball. Beautiful rooms and a great place to experience the traditional and formal Ball dancing and music. A special way to experience Vienna.

This is an absolute must-see in Vienna. Recommend finding a free walking tour to explore the historic district which will include this amazing Palace. If you do not visit this Palace, you have not truly seen Vienna.

The Silver Room alone is worth the entry fee. There is so much to see here, and on a cold & damp day, it's the perfect keep-warm activity. The sheer number of items on display is amazing - silver, gold, ceramics, tableware, glassware ... on & on! Take the ticket that gets you into the Silver exhibit, the Imperial Palace... More

Very reasonable entrance fee for what you get. The exhibitions are well presented and thoroughly interesting. I learnt a great deal about the Habsburg dynasty. Great for those with an interest in history, royalty etc. It does get very crowded in places though so to see everything, be prepared to stand your ground. I was impressed by how relaxed the... We had the pleasure of attending the New Years Ball at the Hofburg. We had such a fantastic time, the surrounding is just amazing! The palace itself is very lovingly maintained and oozes history. I would recommend to wear comfortable shoes as the grounds are massive and you will need to put up with lots of other travellers. All in... More

We did the Sisi museum, imperial palace apartments and silver exhibition at once. The silver exhibition is really well laid out and the electronic tour, very informative. The apartments and Sisi museum too are well presented and quite a unique experience. The apartments have been so well maintained that you do not need to try hard to imagine you are... More

A fascinating place built up over the years. There are several palaces as successive emperors added to and built new wings.

Inner City
In Vienna's best-known district, pedestrian boulevards Kärntner Strasse and Graben connect you with landmarks such as the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera), Vienna’s iconic Stephansdom (St. Stephen’s Cathedral) and the vast compound of Hofburg, the Habsburgs’ former Imperial Palace. Peek down side streets such as Annagasse and Weihburggasse, and Graben’s Seilergasse and Habsburggasse, to get a feel for the centre. The Imperial Apartments and the refreshingly demystifying Sissi Museum are must-dos at Hofburg. Spacious squares such as Am Hof and Freyung often host beautiful seasonal and antiques markets.
