We visited just to see the inside of a WW2 flak tower and see the view from the top, but this place was so much fun. I was sold once I saw you could stroke the friendly Koi, how cool is that?! This museum makes great use of it's unusual, historic building, using all available space. The outdoor area is... More

I know i said this before but its definetly a place for kids and adults with a little kid inside. Also very good for expanding your knowledge of sea life and endangered species. And you must check out the monkeys.

We were two adults and a 3 y/o. On the website we saw the feeding schedule, so we could choose to come when the sharks are being fed. 10 floors of strange and unbelievable animals, with an attempt to keep them in good conditions as possible. There's a screen with explanation for every animal (German and English), not only names... More

This flak tower turned aquarium and zoo is an incredible place full of animals and fish in the heart of Vienna. Surely a must-see attraction if you're travelling with children. Make sure to have some hours available as we did not manage to see everything in 2-3 hours.

One of my favorite details about this aquarium is the history of the building. Not only is it fun to see the inside, but if you go all the way to the top you have an amazing view of Vienna. Also, you could choose to rock climb on the outside of the aquarium.

More than 10.000 animals are shown on an area of 5.000 m² in the Haus des Meeres - Aqua Terra Zoo! In the section for terrarium animals you see crocodiles, poisonous snakes, constrictor and saurians. The main attactions of the tropical seawater section are the huge fish tanks, the sharks, sea turtles, many different corals, as well as gorgeous fish.... More

The ques are long, but it is really great to go and see this aquarium, my girls love touching the star fish and the baby monkeys at the top are just too cute, and adorable, it is really a great place to visit, near mariahilferstrasse, they have upgraded the building, one of the best kids attractions in Vienna, when we... Staying in Mariahilf

Neighbourhood Profile
Mariahilf
Vienna’s sixth district hosts high street shopping heaven and pedestrian area Mariahilfer Strasse. The weirdest local building is probably the city aquarium Haus des Meeres, housed in one of Vienna’s six remaining World War II defense towers, and topped with a rooftop bar that offers stunning views over Vienna and the centre. One of the most historic sites in the area is the passageway of 18th century Raimundhof with its small shops and cafés. It leads from Mariahilfer Strasse to Windmühlgasse. For a glimpse into the world of early 19th century theater, visit Semperdepot, the former depository for theatre decoration, which now hosts art exhibitions and fairs.
