I like this Zoo not only because it´s the oldest zoo in the world, but you can find here many animals, that can´t be found in any other zoo nearby (koalas, big pandas). And the zoo is situated in beautiful park too. Recently we visited Zoo Schonbrunn during Easter holidays (great for children entertaining). But I recommend to visit this... More

It is a very nice place to spend a weekend. Too much areas and animals to see and learn about them. There are pandas in this zoo.

Love this Zoo although part of it has been renovating now, it is great! All you need is there - restaurants, fast-food stands, cafe, benches, toilets at several of places of garden. We parked at Tirolgarten entry, walk by Gloriette and park, visit Labyrinth and enter at Neptun entry in to the Zoo.

We enjoyed the visit, which was included on the Vienna pass, but we found the place rather too smelly. I understand that it is impossible to clean up immediately after all the animals, but in some enclosed areas, like the hippo pavilion, the smell of poo was overpowering - is it good for the hippos to be swimming in water... An old zoo so the animals don't have as much room as I'm used to seeing in modern zoos, but they seem happy and are having babies which is usually a good sign. A lovely variety of animals here and with the glass barriers you do get up close and personal. This was the closest I'd been to a lion... More

While primarily aimed at families with young children, this zoo does not always feel like a zoo. The animal enclosures are spacious and blend in well with the local scenery, as well as trying to create realistic spaces for the respective animals. The highlight for most people would be the pandas and, if active, they live up to their reputation.

I have to be completely honest I didn't have any plans to visit a zoo while on honeymoon, but I'm so glad we did. We had a a few hours to kill after arriving in Vienna, before we could check into our hotel, and as we already had entry to the zoo paid for as part of our Vienna passes... More

The oldest zoo in Europe remains modern, keeping the grandeur off history. Surrounded by a beautifull garden you walk between the wildest and cutest animals on our planet.

I visited this Zoo during Easter weekend. There are a few things that I want to mention about this Zoo and why I was not as impressed as I expected: - The Zoo is organised, but there is no "tour"-like possibility and you may skip to see some animals - Some of the exhibitions where closed (25% of all) -... Staying in Hietzing

Neighbourhood Profile
Vienna’s 13th district has always been in the shadow of Schönbrunn Palace and its gardens, but has interesting hidden gems waiting to be discovered. Allow half a day for the imposing Habsburg residence and the gardens with Gloriette belvedere. Reserve the other half to discover the secret charms of this posh residential neighbourhood. Sneak out of the gardens at Hietzinger Tor (Hietzing Gate) and head down Hietzinger Hauptstrasse for Kaiserpavillon (Emperor’s pavilion), an Art Nouveau gem right on top of U4’s metro railtracks. At local institutions Café Dommayer and restaurant Plachutta you can mingle with residents, their families and friends. Dommayer has risen to fame since waltz king Johann Strauss and his orchestra performed there regularly. If you want to go beyond private villa gazing visit Klimtvilla and Hermesvilla. Art Nouveau genius Gustav Klimt had his last studio in a now beautifully renovated villa, which is open during spring and summer. Hermesvilla at Lainzer Tiergarten animal enclosure and nature park is a must for all romantics and fans of Empress Sissi.
