Not very much special attraction inside. You can of course visit if you have enough time, otherwise walk around and watch the nature.

We dipped into the museum as it poured with rain and were pleasantly surprised. Overall, the museum is very up to date and presents its local materials using a variety of displays, films, and so on. The highlight for me was the Bronze Age Hallstatt period artefacts - they looked a little bit Cretan and a little bit Celtic -... More

For such a small town, this is an impressive museum with items dating back to the bronze age including textiles.

This is one of the best museums I have visited, it is very well laid out, great exhibitions and lots of imaginative, and interactive displays. The displays also have English translations so that is useful if you don't speak German. You can also get a discount for the lovely boat trips, so very good value for money.

We might not have ventured into the museum if the weather had been fine - but, in that case, we would have missed an excellent museum. We checked that there was English explanation as well as German so that we would get the most out of it and were told Yes, English included. The way the museum is laid out... More

really nicely made and shows very much history. Did not believe how much history there is in such a small town but this museum really shows it very nicely and also in a fun, very understandable and great way.

My daughter and I enjoyed strolling through the different floors. There was information from the history of the salt mines and the history Hallstatt the city.

The rain hit us on our trip so we decided to go explore the Hallstatt museum. It was 8 euro entry and contained many findings from the salt mines, from burials and roman remains. I have to be honest, I found it quite boring, everything was a bit bland. Did cater well for English speakers though.

A well laid out and interesting museum. A wide range of languages were catered for in the written material, and there were plenty of interactive exhibits. It's not cheap, but is worth it, especially if you are curious why on Earth Hallstatt is a World Heritage site.
