Just a few years after relocating their residence to Klosterneuburg, Margrave Leopold III and his wife, Agnes, founded the monastery near their castle as a religious, social and cultural center in 1114. They handed the monastery over to the Canons Regular of St. Augustine in 1133.

Came here by accident due to a bus with a technical problem and decided to take one of the 4 tours. But because it was 17 o'clock there was only 1 tour available: the church, monastery and empress tour. An interesting one, you can visit...More

On our Passau to Vienna bike tour we stopped here and were pleasantly surprised! I highly recommend this as a side trip, especially easy to access with e-bikes. The village is cute and the Stift amazing! We enjoyed the tours using audioguides, but I think...More

Bit of a hassle to get there by multiple underground lines and regional train. It's nice but really it's nothing special. The church part was closed which was a shame. The tours (did the museum and wine) are all in German and the using the...More

Take the time to visit the historic masterpiece. The architecture alone, should be enough to awe your senses for an hour or two. The history of the abbey is very interesting and the tour itself is easy to navigate. Your head will be on a...More

We were asked to join a tour, in German but with headphones providing the English version - not great. We did walk around on our own beforehand though, but then you cannot access all rooms.
