What a ship

The castle and views were great (if rather cold/windy in mid March!) but the highlight has to be one of the earliest remains of a ship in the world. Far,far older than Mary Rose!

The Hellenistic shipwreck is spectacular. However, the standards of conservation are abysmal. The space is not only not temperature or humidity controlled, there are actually holes to the exterior.

Decided to visit the castle which we really enjoyed only to find this little treasure at the end of our afternoon. This was very interesting and unique. You will not be disappointed.

This is a small, well laid out museum of artifacts recovered from a 2,300 year old shipwreck. However, the "icing on the cake" is the actual shipwreck itself is there to be seen (accessed by stairs up to the second floor).

You feel that you are in ancient times, when you see the Ship wreck, Cruise hand made materials, 2.300 years old Almonds, olive seeds, Carob seeds and olive oil jars. The museum is well designed and protected. It gives a lot of informations about old times sea life as well.

If you are near here you must visit this museum situated in the castle. Well presented and fascinating finds from the ancient shipwreck and the preserved hull of the ship is breathtaking

Interesting museum inside the Castle itself, so no additional cost. Photos of the wreck before it was brought up from the sea and transferred into the Castle walls.

Small simple museum within the Kyrenia castle...the highlight is a nice display of remains of a Greek merchant ship from 300 B.C...

We had a couple of friends visit from the UK last week and took them to Kyrenia Castle and to view the Ancient Shipwreck Museum. It was brilliant, a quite a amazing exhibition and awesome given the age of the shipwreck. Highly recommended.
