Visible from far and wide yet so close you could almost touch it, the emblem of Liechtenstein towers over Vaduz on a rock terrace which can be reached along a romantic footpath. The castle was first built some 700 years ago. Since 1712 it has been in the possession of the Prince of Liechtenstein. Furthermore, since 1938 it has been the residence of the prince’s family, so it is not open to the public. The 12th century keep and the structures on the east side are the oldest parts of the castle.

The views of Liechtenstein from the castle are amazing. Even if you can't manage the steep hill to the top, there are many viewpoints on the way - all with stunning views! A must do.

I have come to this castle three times, breaking to see how much more. I hoped from one visit to another that I was able to visit it. But ... not for the moment. So it's good to make other plans: this castle is not...More

We drove to the top of the hill and got as close as we could without a schedule visit. It was very pleasant and a few people there too. You can't go in without special arrangement, but they are not running people out who are...More

Since this is the private residence of the royal family, you can't visit. All you can do is drive by it. Not worth the effort.

I only got to look from afar as it sat above on the hill. I enjoyed visiting Vaduz and wandering the streets.

Unfortunately the castle is not open for the visit, since it's still the residence of Royals of the country. However, it worht a visit to enjoy the nice view on the Rhein valley.

As many have pointed out, the castle is private property, so all we could see was to take a peek from the gate. The view is nice, but for the view, there are so many other great viewpoints. The parking is 150m climb from the...More

Of course the residents of private residences deserve privacy... however, would be nice if a curious visitor / turist (like ourselves, with my three teens) could get some genuine, lively insight into very interesting history and present life of royal and general population of this...More

It is never open to the public, although once a year, 15th of August, during the national holiday there’s a party in the gardens (this is what I was told).
