Disappointed
Sep 2020
Past improvement now I think. I visited B/buggia on a nostalgic visit after 25yrs. What a disappointment. Pretty Bay in now an eyesore with rubbish everywhere and the sea covered in plastics and worse. Couple that with the view of the cranes and stench of oil from the storage tanks and there you have it.
Avoid at all costs................

Not such a pretty view!

Wouldn't exactly agree with this designation, as the pretty bay view has heavy industry on the background! The beach is quite nice, but the view...

Good beach

This is nice beach though some will not enjoy the view of the Freeport. Personally I find the view interesting. The sand is clean and sun beds are cheap. Easy for anyone to get in and out of the sea. Recommended

Beach holiday

Beautiful and clean beach were where you can spend quality time on your holiday. Its walk in the sea makes it safe for all the family especially young children. It is also lifeguard assisted to ensure the safety of swimmers.

For those captivated by the deserved charm of Valletta, don't be fooled into thinking the rest of Malta is the same. It's not! Birzebbuga has to rate as possibly the dirtiest, unkempt and disorganized town on the Island. In fact, there are few places in the world that could be as bad, and I say this as someone who has travelled, lived and worked in most of Europe, Africa and Middle-East. For anyone thinking of visiting the delights of the very misleadingly named "Pretty Bay". I would strongly urge you not to waste your time and your senses. The whole place is littered with all sorts of garbage and, apart from the small stretch of sand in the town centre, the rest of the shore-line is littered with the remnants of BBQ fires and dog-mess. There is a large car-park at the far end of town nr the Freeport. Well, it is supposed to be a car-park, but in reality, it has developed into part unofficial trailer park/caravan park, and part refugee camp. This, despite the numerous signs which state "No camping or caravans"! As a result, the small planted area to the side of this car-park is frequently used by these "happy Campers" as an outdoor public toilet. Furthermore, during the evenings, the place is dominated by very loud (well above the legal db levels) music, not to mention the idiots who constantly beep their horns (obviously a primitive form of communication in Malta!), and the revving of souped-up cars driven by equally primitive pond-life. Neither the local Council nor Police seem interested in taking any action, resulting in a situation which almost makes the Wild West seem tranquil by comparison. A hell-hole for the residents, who have little choice regarding the situation. However, for those that can choose where to go and visit, I strongly recommend you give this part of the Island a very, very wide berth. Most definitely a place to avoid at all costs if you value your health and sanity. Not a pretty place!

Pretty Bay Birzebugga
Jul 2019 • Family
I have been visiting Malta every year since I was a child in 1979 and take my family every year. We prefer the non tourist vibe in Birzebbuga and Pretty Bay is popular with the Maltese rather than tourists. The nightlife in Birzebugga, much of which surrounds Pretty Bay is also mainly frequented by Maltese. If you’re looking for a lively, rustic Maltese experience, Pretty Bay in Birzebugga is perfect. If you’re looking for more of a tourist experience maybe North of the Island is better.

Nice bay
Feb 2020 • Couples
Nice bay with pretty sea colours and soft sand but lots of industry intruding on the views eg port, power station etc. Still pleasant but not like it used to be.

An absolute dump.

A very unattractive ironically named bay. A huge shipping yard/harbour surrounds 60% of the bay. Really awful place, not worth a look.

Worth a visit but not so pretty with the ships
Feb 2020 • Family
It’s not such a pretty bay. It’s nice to come perhaps for 30 mins or something but the shipping yard really lets this place down. Makes the view awful. I didn’t notice oil in the water as other travellers have suggested though. The kids area is good for kids.

Great sandy beach, but dont mind the industrial harbour
Oct 2019
This place has great sand and the area around is most likely clean and busy in the season but as visited end of season nothing was open and beach was not so clean. This place is really nice but the ships and factory takes a little of the peace.
