Sunday historical visit
Nov 2020 • Couples
A different way to start our sunday outing with such a beautiful Maltese weather.
We visited Ghar Dalam caves which are such in a peaceful environment surrounded by nature and beautiful views. A well taken care of museum is found when you enter with very interesting facts.

Disappointed
Feb 2020
Bit of a let down after looking at the glossy pictures in the brochure,in actual fact when you get into the cave itself it is very poorly lit and you can barely see anything.Whilst we realise that the lighting is subdued for the rare Woodlouse that inhabits it,it certainly does not match the photos. It was also rather precarious under foot in the dim light.

Interesting cave.

The museum is one big room with cabinets full of small bones eg rhinoceros knuckle. The cave is interesting but you only get about 30 yards inside but can’t get any further. Worth seeing if passing.

I wouldn't really bother. Poor by any real standards. Small unattractive place which takes 5 minutes to walk to the barrier in the cave and back.

This is ok if your near by for a visit. Lots of the same bones in cabinets and they are still restoring the cave so you dont get that far. But it's ok

Time Immemorial
Nov 2019
Gives you a feeling of time passing with the layers of sediment being slowly deposited - burying many forms of life over millennia - a mere blink of an eye.

If you go there at a quiet time you can imagine the long silences in between the rare occasions when something wanders in, only to come to grief....

The native plantings are coming along and will make this a very special place - more planting please

This was not far from where we were staying. Interesting cave system and museum. Appears quite popular with visitors.

A different type of prehistoric Site
Aug 2019
Visit the exhibition before descending into the cave. It is small by comparison to other Maltese Sites but has a different perspective. Very interesting to see how it was used. The south tour bus stops right outside the entrance so it's easy to get too. If interested it's well worth a visit plus it's inexpensive.

This is such a beautiful and amazing cave. It is a gem to find. The prehistory of Malta amazed my family and I. We will go there again and again.

Small but highly significant cave and exhibition
Sep 2019
The exhibition is a must see before entering the cave outside.
The new hall (2005) contains the clearest explaination of how Malta was formed and how it was affected by the ice ages despit the ice never coming anywhere near to the island. The mass of bones found in the cave and displayed in the second 'Victorian hall' confirmed that elephants and hippopotamus roamed the island once but that is not the biggest surprise - which is where they migrated from!!!
We wont spoil the surprise......
